It started out as a very good day. We decided to get the bus down to Ilford, do some shopping, see Ocean's 13 and eat out.
This was most enjoyable. The film is, as most reviewers have said, a return to form, though even if it hadn't been there was all that eye candy (I have problems with Brad Pitt's character being called 'Rusty' I keep seeing him as this bouncy enthusiastic Golden Retriever (though thats exactly how he plays the role - and don't you want to tickle his cute little ears ahem). The plot isn't as convoluted as the first movie, but is sufficiently intelligent to offer some moments of frisson. Added to the To Buy DVD list.
The shopping expedition yielded an Oxfam copy of Vanessa Witburn's Archers book - I seem to be picking these up second-hand - maybe people are really abandoning ship over the Rory story. Awfully castist, but useful nonetheless. Also the Litle Book Of Essential Foreign Swearwords which will probably come in useful (though it's woefully short on Arabic), a new Agatha Rasin, the latest Morland saga for me, several SF novels for Lil, and Langford's The End of Harry Potter (I know that JKR disaproves of cash-in books, but I do feel that Dave needs the money more than she does.)
I waited in WH Smiths for ages as the assistant searched for the DVDs to go with the case for Hustle 2 and found that they didn't have any (then why put four cases out on display?) Eventually bought it for the same price in HMV - though without my WHS card discount.
Dropped in at the local Pizza Express in the way back, and arrived home to see NuWho
Wish I hadn't. The contrast with the excellent movie I'd just seen, and Who was just mindboggling. I see Tennant as more of a gurning beagle, with Simms as a manic Yorkshire Terrier...
