Bank Holiday Week and a Rec

May 28, 2015 06:49

Busy week, well, except for Bank Holiday Monday when we didn’t do anything but walk the dogs. As usual there were a lot of strange dogs being walked so Draco had to stay on his lead for most of the walk - not his favourite thing.

Tuesday afternoon was back to normal, until Lil looked out of the window and noticed that the close was full (literally) of cars - mostly police cars, from both the Met and Essex forces (we’re on the border here) including the dog van. They appear to have stopped two white ‘top end’ motors (Mercs or BMWs) and the drivers were out of the vehicles and talking on their mobile phones. While all this was going on (watched by Zara from the upstairs windowsill - that cat is the local curtain-twitcher) more police cars were zooming along the main road. After half an hour or so they all dispersed - no arrests (I suppose it’s possible that the white cars were plain-clothes cops), not without difficulty since turning around in our close is a tricky manoeuvre, but none of them seem to have knocked over the brick end-post of our neighbours wall which regularly gets demolished by people who have gone wrong at the lights and find our close the first convenient space to obey their sat-nav instructions to ‘turn around when possible’. Will keep an eye on the local paper - and the next series of Police Interceptors filmed in Essex.

Yesterday (Wednesday) I went into Town to meet my sister for a pre-birthday meal and a look around Borough Market. Despite what I thought were my careful instructions on where to meet, she thought I meant Borough station rather than London Bridge - which is the station TFL’s journey planner sent me to (I knew I should have actually sent her a picture of the entrance I’d be waiting outside).

Fortunately Borough is one of those markets which is so expensive, and with so much choice, that it’s easy to avoid buying anything Though I did browse home a bottle of ‘fortified chocolate wine’ on the grounds that it tasted quite nice, and I have to have something to drink out of my liqueur glass collection occasionally. I was also tempted (and fell) by a ‘Silver Filigree’ Paperblank notebook in Rymans and browsed that home - have no idea what I’ll use it for but who could resist?

It has the cutest little metal catch at the top instead of the usual magnetic leather ones.

And my gift in
acd_holmesfest was posted yesterday and I can genuinely recommend it - The Adventure of the Bridegrooms Photograph. I asked for Holmes investigating an historical mystery and received exactly what I asked for - in spades! Waiting for the reveals now so that I can find out who posted this and properly thank those who have commented on my own story.

And in knitting news - I am halfway through the last section of my first garment for me - using circular needles to knit straight because Draco objects to having straight needles poked in his ear while he’s sitting next to me while I knit. Also, round needles keep the stitches safe from animal intervention when left stuck in the ball while I go to make a cup of tea.

Which I am off to do now.
