Sunday at Blackwater

This is something in the way of an experiment in coming to terms with both DW and the new look Flickr.

It was a busy weekend. On Saturday we finally got to do the English Heritage 'Legal London' walk - which was constrained by being at a weekend when most of the Inns of Court are closed to visitors (EH need to sort this out), and also by being cloudy and wet. I will probably go back in the week for photos and a rootle round the places we missed (and also without the obsessive commentary on the relevant works of Dickens. Surely there are authors with more relevance to Legal London?)

On Sunday we took the dogs to the Blackwater Country Show. Essex County no longer has a County show, having sold off the showground to build a racecourse (which has yet to see any racing) so private enterprise has to fill the gap. Which meant no equine or farming competition rings but did mean that we could see most of the displays within the time allotted.

There were heavy horses:

And a demonstration of horseball (quidditch with horses instead of broomsticks):

There was also a dog demonstration ring for agility and Heelwork to Music, which allowed visitors to have a go (Lil's flickr has some lovely photos of Draco demonstrating that he can do it - though we did not get a clear round, and he was very puzzled by the see saw which was wider and shorter than he's used to, which is why he did a flying dismount! On the other hand, he did a beautiful long jump:

The Newfoundland group which we have met practising water rescues on Fairlop water were there (in Newfoundland dogs the term 'rescue' means something different than for other dog breeds), sharing space alongside the country sports section, and the retrievers practising water retrieval (our dogs were not very happy about the gunfire).

There was also a Saxon life reconstruction group, military and vintage vehicle displays and loads of the usual trade stands. At which we purchased no more than a hot-dog and a fresh lemonade (I was tempted by a walking stick, but didn't have a cheque book on me.)

A good day, despite the occasional shower.
