On Fictional Canon

I would like to thank John Finnemore from the bottom of my fanficcer's heart for this blog post on the subject of what is and is not 'canon' in popular culture.

Admittedly he is talking about a radio series, and the difference between the author's and the listener's mental picture of a character, but the basic principle - that 'what is in the public domain is canon' and anything that isn't specifically mentioned is 'up for grabs'.

Now if only a few more creators had the same sensible attitude.
