I am so riled up and antsy and emotional today. There is (likely) potential that the end of an era will occur tonight. The Sacramento Kings will be moving to Anaheim, and probably change their name to the Royals because socal already has the LA Kings for hockey. I don't even fully understand the reasons and terms of this move (mainly money?), I'm just pissed off and heartbroken that another piece of my childhood is being ripped away from me after my high school closed.
I realize this is a bit dramatic, but I've only known this team to be in Sacramento. And yes, they haven't had a winning record for over half the time they've been here, but the organization has laid the foundation for a lot of current great NBA players:
- Peja Stojakovic on the Mavericks, for instance. What is he, like #4 on the list of most 3-pt FGs made? And we had him when he still went by Predrag, not Peja.
- Hedo Turkoglu has been to the NBA Finals with the Magic.
- Ron Artest has WON an NBA championship with the Lakers.
- Matt Barnes, who is also from Sacramento, went to the Finals with Hedo and is now forever a traitor to me on the Lakers as well.
- Mike Bibby is now starting alongside LeBron fucking James on the Miami Heat in pursuit of his first ring.
- Gerald Wallace, who was but a rookie and only got to play during the last minute of games during the Kings' glory days, is now on the Blazers and in the playoffs.
Just to name a few. And I could go on for days.
I don't think I would mind if they went anywhere else in the country, but the fact that Anaheim is the place of choice is such a slap in the face for the sole reason it's in southern California. And there are already TWO teams down there, one of which is the fucking WORLD CHAMPION. If game attendance is the issue, well the Kings--I mean, Royals are gonna have a hard time gaining any loyalty with the two other teams there. And the arena is much bigger than ours here so if they can't fill it here, then I will become a Laker fan and kiss the ground Kobe raped a girl on if they can sell out the Anaheim arena.
Oh, and our last game tonight is against the Lakers. In Sacramento, but against the Lakers.
AND KOBE GOT FINED $100,000 FOR USING A HOMOPHOBIC SLUR DURING LAST NIGHT'S GAME. Pocket change for him, but he ain't above everyone.
