My dogs escape every once in a while. It's how they do.
Nathan's dogs roam. They protect his property. It's how they do.
But when dogs collide? I pay over $600 for surgery, medication and a drain is put in my dog's side.
I tried really, really hard to get her away from the other dog--he wasn't barking or growling. Just looking at her. I am afraid of dogs that don't bark. You have no warning, no gauge of how they're feeling. But I could not grab her and get her away from him.
My little Ruby got bitten by a German Shepherd. She's alive and well, just uncomfortable and in a bit of pain. The bite was just to the front of her right hind leg. It did not rupture her abdominal wall, thank God. But she had some tissue removed that showed early signs of necrosis. Since that area has so much excess skin, it wasn't a giant deal. However, the shape of the bite made a sort of 'pocket' that could have easily been a breeding ground for an internal infection. It was hard to spot how big it was at first. It just looked like a little nip. But it was definitely deeper than I would have guessed. She's all sewn up now, with a tube for a drain exiting her sutures. She's got one of those Elizabethan collars (yes, that's what they're called. I'm betting this is the Bard's revenge for my trash-talking) and she absolutely hates it.
I'm just so so happy she's alive. That shepherd could have killed her, easily. She's all of 15 pounds. My poor girl.
