Today's picture has nothing to do with today's post, but is insanely cute:
Anyway, apparently there's been some microscope repair vendor going around the building i work in trying to intimidate people into getting their scopes serviced and then charging crazy exorbitant fees. Evidently our lab manager encountered this fellow and told him to get lost. (The advantages of having a former bouncer in your lab) Here's the email we got about it (note the creative use of a pound sign):
Colleagues,
I am sending out a word of warning about a microscope service company called M & M Microscopes and its owner, a 6'4 200# fairly aggressive guy. This guy has been going around in CSC and WIMR falsely stating that he is here to service the microscopes and then charging a ludicrous amount for services. He is putting his service sticker on scopes that he has not been called to service. In the last 2 weeks the Univ. Police have been after him about fraudulent business practices and perhaps taking away his vendor privileges.
This morning we discovered that all the objectives had been stolen off of my inverted scope in K4/870 and this scope had his sticker on it, despite my not having had it serviced at UW since I've been here. If you see this guy around, call the Univ. Police department and report him. Also check scopes for this sticker and remove it.
My thoughts :
1) I can't believe that actually works on people. Granted the guy is big-mc-large-huge, but is he REALLY going to rough you up in a science lab? Doesn't he know how many of us are ninjas?
2) How desperate is that guy? He's a university approved vendor so he must have been legit at some point.
3) POSSIBLY revoking his vendor privileges?! I would have thought that would have been done IMMEDIATELY.
Anyway, I might not post tomorrow, as i will be headed to Chicago this weekend to see Seth. The cats are very upset about his absence but I'm sure they'll adjust.
