Fandom: Loveless
Gender: Male
Age: Twelve
Time Period: Just before Gora adventures

History: His history only expands back to the past two years. Anything before then he can't recall, because supposedly it wasn't him. And his mother backs up such a concept fully, constantly claiming that he isn't her son, he isn't Ritsuka. If you can imagine, that alone is enough to scar a kid mentally, if just only a little. Since he came around, his mother was always violent with him, hitting him, clawing at him, biting him, etc., etc. The only one who could stop her rampages was his older brother, Seimei. To him Seimei was something like a saint. Seimei would always protect him, look after him, teach him things, an ideal kind and caring older brother. Needless to say, the two had a very strong bond.

But when Ritsuka was ten years old his brother was murdered by an unknown culprit. And Seimei's burnt remains were left sitting in Ritsuka's desk at his primary school. Scarred enough? Naw.

Two years after the incident, when the story takes place, Ritsuka transfers to a new school. His first impressions are less than impressed when he comes across a dumb girl named Yuiko, who is practically ordered to speak with him by the other girls in the class. Even though he rejects her, she persists. After school that day as Ritsuka is leaving for the library, Yuiko insists on following him. He turns her down but she follows him until his homeroom teacher stops them. She shows concern about Ritsuka's well being and suddenly he turns polite insisting that Yuiko has been treating him well and that they were going to the library together. The teacher is pleased and leaves but before they leave Yuiko comments on how strangely Ritsuka acted around the teacher in comparison to just before, saying that it was as if he had a split personality. Ritsuka is immensely offended and runs off without Yuiko. As he is leaving the school yard he's stopped by a weird “adult” (in this twisted alternate reality people are born with a pair of cat like ears and tail. When they lose their virginity, there goes the ears and tail!) who bugs him about why he's crying as he's running out of the school yard. Before Ritsuka can start throwing too many insults after denying he was upset the man introduces himself as Soubi, a friend of his late brother, Seimei. Ritsuka's mood reverses and is instantly interested in this Soubi guy and asks him if he wants to “make memories” or take pictures.

They go to the park and after a few pictures they sit down to talk and Ritsuka confronts Soubi about his lack of (cat) ears and mentions that he didn't know Seimei had any adult friends. Soubi tells him not to worry about it, that he wouldn't try anything. Well, just before he kisses Ritsuka. If you can't already imagine, Ritsuka's a little creeped out and begins yelling at Soubi after he had just said he wouldn't try anything. But Soubi continues to be a creeper, telling Ritsuka he loves him and kisses his hand. Being the confused twelve year old he is, he has no idea what Soubi's up to and fears, shall we say, the worst.

But their “talk” is soon interrupted by a weird girl and boy who are Ritsuka's age. The two challenge the mysterious Soubi to a battle, which he accepts. Meanwhile Ritsuka is left baffled by the development and not to mention the strangely large amount of affection Soubi suddenly shows for him despite them only just meeting. What little is explained about the strange battle is that it is a battle of word spells. The battles consist of two on two, each team having a Fighter and Sacrifice who bear the same “true name”. True names are decided before a person is even born and only one other shares the name with them. Soubi's being Beloved, the same as Ritsuka's brother. The fighter does the obvious and fights using word spells and the Sacrifice takes the damage. When the Sacrifice is restrained the other team wins. The battle of word spells ends quickly when Soubi casts a spell that teleports (more or less) the children elsewhere. With a final affection of love and a farewell, Soubi departs leaving little to no explanation for Ritsuka.

The next school day Yuiko is more persistent and Ritsuka gives in to letting her get along with him. The two head out of school together and bump into Soubi yet again. Ritsuka gives him the photos from the other day and the three attempt to grab food at 7-11. Soubi won't allow it of course and insists on cooking for them. They head to Yuiko's house, have a ball and then Ritsuka heads home, escort by Soubi. The topic of Seimei's murder comes up and Ritsuka yells questions Soubi whether he knows of the murderer and who it is. But Soubi doesn't know and tells Ritsuka to check his brother's computer for any note or will that Seimei might have left.

Later that night Soubi comes knocking on Ritsuka's balcony door as Ritsuka gets onto his brother's computer. The file is locked with a password, the password being Ritsuka's true name, Loveless. The will says barely anything besides that Seimei was killed by something or someone called Septimal (Seven) Moon and that he was giving his “Fighter” a.k.a. Soubi to Ritsuka. Ritsuka questions Soubi if he was ordered by Seimei to look after him and be so affectionate. Soubi confirms it and Ritsuka orders him to leave and tells him to stop it with the “I like you” “I love you”s that Soubi has been so generously saying to Ritsuka since they met.

On sparks Ritsuka's revenge journey! Sort of. The two children team from before eventually appears again at Ritsuka's school as Ritsuka is being stalked by Yuiko once again. Ritsuka tells Yuiko to split after he agrees that if she listens he'll surrender and be her legit friend. Yuiko obeys. The two tell Ritsuka they were sent to have him join Septimal Moon. But they killed his brother, right? Ritsuka obviously refuses after questioning them about several things but gets no where. Then Soubi magically appears to save the day and kick some primary schoolers butts. Soubi wins - surprise - and leaves with the children.

Soubi continues to see Ritsuka after school and the occasional balcony visit, and even gives him a cell phone so they can stay in contact for whenever Ritsuka might need Soubi. Somehow Soubi also manages to convince Ritsuka to pierce his ears. What crazy fool does that? They are eventually confronted by another team sent again by Septimal Moon who promises an envelope with information if they are defeated. Well the opposing team loses and Ritsuka gets the envelope which sadly only has a strange code written on it. Neither of them can make any sense of it for the time being.

While over a new friend's house, Yayoi (a kid from another class who was out sick until recent, but has a huge crush on Yuiko and when he returned and found Yuiko stalking Ritsuka he embedded himself into their posse), Ritsuka notices a paper with a similar code as the one from the envelope he was given and learns that they are codes used for meeting within an online game called Wisdom Resurrection. Ritsuka quickly joins the game and reaches the in game meeting coordinates despite the late hour of night (midnight). He tells Soubi of the code's meaning but before Soubi can get on the game himself, the room that Ritsuka's in game character enters is full. Meanwhile Ritsuka confronts another player. The player tells him that they will answer only yes or no questions, but he's free to ask whatever he may like otherwise. Unprepared Ritsuka tries to ask what questions he can concerning Septimal Moon and learns that it is a group of seven people and that the player is one of the members, however, they did not kill Seimei. But before Ritsuka can ask anything further he falls asleep at his computer.

The next chance he's given Ritsuka skips school and goes to sleep at Soubi's place, after several failed attempts elsewhere, so that he can be fully awake to meet the player once more on the game at midnight. When he gets on the game there are two other players along with the player from before. They don't argue against helping Ritsuka further but require that he tell them what he knows of his brother's personality. Ritsuka goes onto explain how admirable and caring his brother was to him and the three are left in a bit of disbelief claiming Seimei was more brutal than that and certainly cold hearted. Needless to say Ritsuka becomes upset by this but they continue to help him by saying they suspect that Seimei may still be alive. Also that they made a unanimous vote to kill Seimei but he died before they could get to him and that Soubi knows all there is about why there was a vote against Seimei and about Septimal Moon. Surprised, Ritsuka questions Soubi who refuses to answer a word no matter what or how long he awaited an answer.

The questioning is cut short when Ritsuka receives a phone call from Yuiko who says his mother found out he wasn't home and that she had been calling everyone from his class asking where he was. He heads home, Soubi trailing behind. When he arrives his mother lashes out at him (that's putting it nicely), when she finally stops she locks herself in the hallway and argues against Ritsuka coming near. Soubi then takes the chance to enter his home and while the two are talking the home phone rings and Ritsuka's mother is positively convinced it's Seimei speaking. Ritsuka takes the phone but knows it isn't Seimei, although his mother refuses to believe him. The person on the other side of the phone, whoever they may be, tells Ritsuka to go to a park and meet people who have information. Ritsuka obeys and takes Soubi with him. The two confront another team who demand a fight. You can guess who wins. Ritsuka then demands the information he was promised concerning his brother. The two are left confused and have no idea what he's talking about. Their only piece of information is that they ate lunch with an Aoyagi Seimei a week ago. Both Soubi and Ritsuka are shocked and a little in denial as they leave the park.

When Ritsuka returns home he finds his mother asleep in the entranceway after having been given several sleeping pills. Soubi takes Ritsuka's mother to her bed and heads home. The next morning Ritsuka awakens tied to a chair. His mother refuses to untie him claiming that someone wants her to kill him so that Seimei could come home. After several hours his mother leaves the house and Soubi arrives to save the damsel in distress Ritsuka once again. But things seem a little off and Soubi isn't acting like his usual self. Soubi unties Ritsuka but won't tell him why he's so upset. Before leaving Soubi tells Ritsuka that something scary happened and nothing more. For what it's worth Ritsuka comforts him and tells him not to worry about it.

That night he gets on Wisdom Resurrection again for the meeting. This time it is but one player, and not the usual one but one of the two that appeared on the second meeting. Ritsuka tells the different player, who introduces himself as Ritsu sensei, that he wants to see and learn about Septimal Moon with his own eyes and not through words from others. Ritsu sensei is intrigued and relays that Ritsuka ask Soubi to take him to a place called Goura.

Hmn, too bad he'll wind up in Luceti instead.

Personality: His own personality is supposedly a total one-eighty from “Ritsuka's”, well supposedly at least. Easily put the kid is very introverted and keeps his issues and worries to himself so as not to worry those around him. They have their problems, he can handle his right? Not really, but let's go with it. He hates people who he considers idiots; people who are childish, or follow orders blindly and allow themselves to be abused by others for the sake of acceptance. (ie: Yuiko at the start of the story) He's also not afraid to throw insults or threats. On more than one occasion he calls his classmates names while pointing out their flaws eagerly and when they bully Yuiko at one point he even threatens to kill them after he practically punts a desk across the room. (What a pacifist indeed!) Just because he looks cute and cuddly doesn't mean he won't try and defend something per se. He doesn't mind if it's him being hurt but he really doesn't like it when his friends are picked on. Not that he'll go punch a giant, he knows better than that but you get my point.

Being the child he is he doesn't really get the concepts of love and Soubi's abuse of the word makes him even more confused and rejecting towards it. But despite that, he's really just looking for someone to care for. This can go for most children who lose someone very important to them, they look for someone or something to fill that gap that the special person left behind. In Ritsuka's case he attempts to with his mother, and in a little way Soubi though he won't really admit to such a thing because he probably doesn't even realize it himself.

His mother, no matter how hard Ritsuka tries to be “Ritsuka”, rejects him and beats him when he does something wrong or something that isn't “Ritsuka” like. But he doesn't want to lose a possible person that could love him so he takes her hits and ...forks without question and just grits his teeth until her tantrums cease. Due to his mother's violent and hysterical personality towards him Ritsuka refuses to hit or hurt another person no matter what they choose to do or what they do to him. … Though he doesn't mind Soubi fighting people. Oh, but he won't let Soubi kill them. His definition of pacifism is a little strange, I know. But as you can imagine, not being “Ritsuka” and being denied by his mother can do things to a kid. He surprisingly enough believes her and knows that he'll disappear one day. To prevent being forgotten as much as possibly he makes memories or takes pictures with his camera whenever he can. But it has to be with photographs, he refuses any other method.

Being a kid though, he seriously doesn't understand what exactly love or caring for someone entirely means. He might be able to look it up in a dictionary or care for someone in certain ways but he doesn't quite get it. Soubi does not help with this. His constant use of affectionate words and gestures confuses the kid even further and not understanding it really, Ritsuka rejects compliments or words of love, most of the time in a harsh manner. He wonders why his true name is Loveless..? Uhhh... But he's kind of like a lost puppy in a way. Show him some affection or kindness while not being an utter idiot about it and the kid will fall for it. Not to say he's gullible, he's just a little needing of some lovin'.

Despite only being twelve he's a pretty bright and independent kid. His brother taught him well! Or at least that being a bookworm is a good thing. So even though Ritsuka is still in primary school the kid reads absurd things like Nietzsche. What twelve year old reads Nietzsche and enjoys it? Anyways he gets wonderful grades and clearly demonstrates he has a mind of his own. He doesn't like being ordered around, he wants to do things for himself. But he also doesn't like being lied to or not told things. Again, Soubi doesn't entirely help with that when he refuses to tell Ritsuka about Septimal Moon or lies to Ritsuka. At first this really pissed Ritsuka off, it still does really but he's come to learn that at least with some aspects that's just how Soubi is. Otherwise, he orders Soubi to tell him the truth or that not saying anything is the same as lying to him. Soubi still does it sometimes anyways, but mostly only when it conflicts with an order that was given to him previously by Seimei. (ie: Not saying a word about Septimal Moon) For a kid who already has difficulty trusting most people, this makes matters a little more challenging.

But there's just one problem with Ritsuka. He likes McDonald's. Kidding, sort of. But the kid does like his McyD's and other fast food like meals. (Soubi is disgusted by this, and so am I.) He's also a terrible artist and can't draw to save his life. Ritsuka's certainly a left brained person. Where he fails miserably at art, he excels at math because how most math geniuses explain, there's only one right answer.

Strengths: Although this part is obvious simply by looking at him, Ritsuka is a 12 year old cat boy. Let's face it, the kid's cute. He may not be physically strong, but there aren't too many souls that are sick enough to want to make this kid cry. Adorable looks aside, Ritsuka is very strong willed for a child his age. He's responsible to boot and strongly opinionated about what a person can and cannot make another do. Simply put, he's extremely independent. Though that isn't always such a good thing. For what it's worth though, he can also take a punch or two. Or getting stabbed with forks, being bitten, sort of drowned. He can take it, at least from his mother. Ritsuka's just one of those kids that wear their hearts on their sleeve for some people but completely lock it away from others. (His other classmates...) For the most part he keeps his feelings to himself and whether or not it can be seen as a positive, hates to worry people. He isn't exactly afraid to shed a tear either, he just might deny it after ward. He just likes to keep to himself for the most part.

Weaknesses: Being small if not a little on the scrawny side, Ritsuka is just your average kid. He doesn't have super strength or the ability to leap tall buildings. He's just average, if anything a little on the short side (so says Yayoi and Yuiko). Whether or not that can really be considered a weakness is up to an opinion. It may be because Ristuka is just a kid but he really doesn't understand, and often time rejects, words of affection. Phrases like “I like you” or “I love you” do not really appeal to him and he'll often argue against such meaningful words.

Ritsuka is a pacifist in every possible way. He won't hit anyone, he won't even lift a finger no matter what you do to him. That's just not his thing. But with that comes consequences, particularly his hysterical mother who beats him on a near daily basis because he isn't her Ritsuka. When Seimei was around he could quell their mother and stop her, but without him things a bit more bleak. Seimei himself is probably Ritsuka's greatest weakness. He adores and admires his brother without question, to him Seimei was like a real guardian angel. But not all guardian angels are exactly whom they say they are and if he were ever rejected by Seimei he might just crack. Lastly, his other greatest mental fear other than a person is the idea of being forgotten. “Ritsuka” will come back one day, and when he does, this Ritsuka will vanish. To counter being forgotten Ritsuka often “makes memories” or takes pictures with those around him. It's the only way, according to him, that will keep him around even when “Ritsuka” gets back.
