What I learned in my photography workshop.

Of course I learned how to use the camera, what exactly aperture and shutter speed and ISO all mean, and how to fiddle with these settings to get the shot one wants. These are the things I wanted to find out, the reason I joined the workshop. But through the course of the sessions, by doing my homework and attending the shoots, I learned other things I didn't expect to learn.

Models will do their best to give you the shot you want.

They will hold any pose you want, for as long as they can, no matter how uncomfortable.

At your direction, they will smile and frown, and do all layers of expressions in between.

They will even lie on dirty stairs, walk in mud, and lean on damp trees if you ask them to. Nicely, of course. But they'll do it and won't complain.

And taking pictures of models is fun in it's own way.

But kids! Oh kids...

Will completely ignore you.

Or fidget nonstop.

Or attack the camera.

Or simply refuse to smile.

Which is why photos like these are golden to me:

And I will always love taking pictures of my children more than anyone or anything else.
