Giving the children a jumpstart to geekiness.

Last Sunday was an unexpected Book Day for us. It started in PowerPlant mall where for no reason, Ninang Michelle got Lia a couple of coloring books, and Desi a Baby Einsteins board book. By the time we got home we brought more than 30 books all together. I'm not kidding.

Ok, about ten of those were for me. I borrowed some Jasper Fforde from Norman and brought home some Terry Pratchetts to re-read. I've not been sleeping well lately, and I think some bedtime reading instead of some bedtime Conan will help me sleep better.

But the rest were for Lia and Desi. Behold!

A complete collection of the classic Sesame Street Finding Out Encyclopedia. This is CLASSIC people! Pre-Elmo Sesame Street. Remember when Grover had the monopoly on the annoying, and Telly Monster had the occassional time share. And Oscar the Grouch was a much more central character? Thank you thank you thank you Tina (nyarmdiddlydum ) for saving these books for us. I can't wait to read all of them with my kids. I promise to preserve them well for your future children. Which means Desi is not allowed near it by a 5 meter radius. Hahaha! I'll have to read these books to her from the other end of the room. Thenagain, we never can tell with the extent of Desi's Darling powers.

Also, Ninong Norman forgot to get birthday gifts for Lia and Desi earlier this year and has recently gone to Fully Booked with my children in mind. Or so he thought. I think perhaps he actually had me in mind because he got them books I have long been drooling at.

Wheeee! I love Neil Gaiman. But I love children's books even more! And I have A LOT. In fact it's the bookstore section I make a beeline for, right after checking if there are any Discworld books in stock. So imagine my delight at Neil Gaiman's writing childrens' books. I already own these:

Note that my "The Day I swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish" is autographed by Neil Himself. It says Best Fishes! Isn't that awesome! I also own Coraline (although it seems someone borrowed it and hasn't returned it. hm.) So the only book missing from my collection is, I believe, Wolves in the Walls. Take note all you gift giving people who don't know what to get me.

I know, I know, Blueberry Girl and Crazy Hair are not MINE, per se. In fact, Norman made sure I didn't deny my children ownership of these books by writing dedications in each, addressed to his nieces. Fine, fine. But they get to stay in the same house as me, right? Until my kids move out. And we all know that is never going to happen. Anyway, it's all the same. I'll be giving them all my children's books someday anyway. And yes, while they're still children. And if they're like me, we'll be reading these books all the way to adulthood. :-)

Thanks again Norman and Tina and Michelle!
