It's back. The TV is back. In the days it wasn't here, I cleaned a little, painted a little, did not scrapbook at all, don't even ask about the business idea. What I did a lot of was... well, go out. Hm. Magastos palang mawalan ng TV. Buti na lang libre ni Shiva yung dinner nung Friday. Thanks girl! The TV is back but it's not plugged on yet. I'm going to wait for Mike to come home then he can do it. Cause even if I wasn't really able to raise my productivity levels significantly, I was much more focused on playing with my kids when there was no TV as opposed to playing with them while watching TV. So there.
Speaking of Friday, I did something I hadn't done in years. I went to a GIG! I'm not sure if it truly counts because it was in Hard Rock Cafe which was a far cry from the holes in the walls I used to frequent. And the band I came to see was only there because of a makeover fashion show/store zone launch event. Nevertheless, it was fantastically fabulous fun.
I love the
Itchyworms!
Of all the bands I used to stalk watch, they are the ones I just keep coming back to. And every time I do come back, it is always always FUN. It was so amusing how some things have changed. They now have a whole squad of assistants setting up their equipment before they even get on stage, they're better dressed, they're a little heavier (oops!), and they are way more famous, with hit songs like Beer and Akin ka na Lang that have penetrated mainstream Pinoy pop culture. At the same time, I love how they still tell funny jokes even when no one in the audience gets it, how nice they still are to their fans, but most of all how tight their music is, hitting all their notes together each and every time. I will never tire of the catchy tunes and lyrics, and the general happy feeling you get just listening to their music.
After the set at Hard Rock, I approached them for autographs and was introduced to the current girlfriends simply as "Ina." I think they were sort of wondering, ok, who's this schmoozy girl? So I felt I had to explain.
me: pinanonood ko sila dati, nung hindi pa sila sikat, wala pa silang mga assistants, sinasabi pa nila sa amin, hintayin nyo naman yung set namin, huli kaming tutugtog.
andy (jug's girlfriend): wow, mukhang 1960s pa yun ah.
kelvin: bata pa si Jazz nun.
me: payat ka pa nun.
kelvin: woah bigat.
jugs: tapos ngayon dalawa na anak mo!
andy: dalawa na anak mo?!
me: oo nga pala, dalawa na anak ko!
Come to think of it, it's been over 10 years since I first saw them live, in Music Museum in 1997. Binati pa ni Jugs si Ia and we remembered that my sister used to listen to their Revenge of the Unsigned demo CD while doing her homework in GRADESCHOOL. Can you believe? Ngayon, college na siya. Yes, it's been that long ago.
After coming back from JVP, my gigging dwindled. And as my family grew, it came to a gradual stop. In fact, I can't remember the last time I saw an itchygig. I didn't even know there were new songs until Jugs texted me to vote for Penge Naman Ako Niyan on MYX, and then I only knew there was a new Self-Titled album when I was texted to go out and get it. Which I did! And for a whole week I didn't listen to anything else. All I wanted to do was hear all these new songs live! Especially Freak Out!!! It's my favorite! Disco ROCKS! Hahaha!!!
One reason I felt truly compelled to go see them live again was because after being such an absent fan for so long, was when I read the thank you's I was acknowledged there as "laging nanonood." Me and my sister. Aww! That's 3 albums, ALL their albums I'm in the Thank Yous. I don't deserve it but I am soooo touched. I will be your fan forever. And so will my children. And my children's children. After all I attended the Noon Time Show Album launch while 7 months pregnant with Lia.
In college, I was super close to the Sugar Free guys but they never text me anymore. I used to watch Imago every single week but when I saw them in Davao last year, they couldn't remember my name (Tim called me Kat. Then Kathy. Hello! Buti pa si Myrene naalala ako. But ironically she wasn't in Imago when I was stalking them. And I never stalked Sandwich.) Only the Worms haven't forgotten. So, thank you so much you guys! For the music that I love and for everything else.
BUY THEIR NEW CD! IT IS WHAT YOU NEED IN LIFE AND SO MUCH MORE.
