Just saw The Martian and it's a really great movie. I enjoyed it very much. Just read the book a week ago and think they did a very good job. There were some cuts but great adaption.
Yeah, this audience was much better than the Cologne one last week. Maybe it has to do with how well they speak English and thus understand the jokes? :D
This is promising. Going to see Crimson Peak in Bonn tonight. We've been real unlucky with Bonn audiences twice (as in: groups talking loudly during the movie, being constantly on their smartphone, teenagers throwing not-so-clever comments). Give us some of your karma, ina!
You did well! The audience was quiet and (I suppose) sufficiently geeky, as befit the movie. (Very romantic gothic BTW, reminded me of Bram Stoker's Dracula, and pure period costume porn.)
Now, would you know someone with awesome train karma I could borrow from? Cause it took me two hours to get home after the film when *all* the regional trains to Cologne from Bonn were canceled and I ended up taking the 18 all the way. -_-;
They most didn't laugh at what is fundamentally a movie that's supposed to make you laugh quite a lot of the time. It was like watching a comedian's jokes die onstage - a big part of what makes movies fun to watch in-theatre is the communal aspect. When that's missing, it's weird.
Our Martian audience in Cologne (on a Friday) was very appreciative and they got all the jokes. Guess you got really unlucky. Ask ina next time for audience karma, she did a great job with ours. :P
Anyway: yay!
