entire thing, right there (omitted is the article i sent)
uh, ok, you really CAN'T base an entire argument against a vegetarian that animals are killed in the process of harvesting vegetables. of course it's inevitable that some animals be killed- just driving can kill animals. and though harvesting may or may not kill more animals than driving, the truth is that harvesting is not going to kill half as many animals as a slaughterhouse. this is why using that continually as an argument is pointless. on that same note, you aren't actually eating the animals. nor is there the chance that the animals were in terrible conditions before they were slaughtered as has happened in many slaughterhouses, as you already know. as a vegetarian, it annoys me that people assume that I will attack them when they eat meat. it really does. it's my decision, and my REASON for being a vegetarian IS my opinion.
"...Does that seem like me offending your opinion, or me expressing mine?
DementedDrSuess (11:45:32 PM): im saying that i dont have a problem with vegetetarians* who just dont like meat (i mean, i dont like vegetables, so i dont eat them) DementedDrSuess (11:45:46 PM): but ii get mad when they bring the killing of animals into it rocksyoursocks56 (11:46:03 PM): ok rocksyoursocks56 (11:46:14 PM): well then you have a problem with me i guess DementedDrSuess (11:46:26 PM): i guess"
really, putting those two quotes together says more than I could ramble on about.
besides, many vegetarians don't eat meat simply because of the thought that, looking at your pet at your feet, your meat was once alive, and that life is soon to be digested in your stomach. it's just gross. and there is nothing wrong with that opinion, at all. and to say that one's opinion makes you mad and is wrong is definetly offending the opinion. as is saying you have a problem with them.
Please note that the mentioning of the killing of field animals in the process of harvesting would not have been brought up had she not brought up the fact that she couldnt stand the way the animals were treated. ("rocksyoursocks56 (11:36:52 PM): its not healthy, and i think its horibble the way the animals are treated"). I was just educating her that animals are treated horribly either way. And how does harvesting not kill more animals than a slaughterhouse? It seems that there are more to animals than those that you care about. How many field mice, possums, insects, and God knows what else do you think live in a field? If a vegetarian wishes to base a belief on something, I feel that it is best to educate them on what they believe in. And youre right. Nobody eats the animals that are killed in harvesting. They are killed for nothing. Even the cows that are killed are used for leather, and the pigs for compost to help the crops grow. And in no way did I imply that she was pressing her belief on me. Nor did I imply that she was attacking me. And believe it or not, I recognized your right to an opinion ("im saying that i dont have a problem with vegetetarians* who just dont like meat (i mean, i dont like vegetables, so i dont eat them)"). Im saying I have a problem who believe in something for the wrong reason. There is nothing wrong with your opinion to relate your pet to every living animal either. I had no problem with her opinion, but with her lack of eduaction (the lack of knowledge that animals die either way). "...the thought that, looking at your pet at your feet, your meat was once alive, and that life is soon to be digested in your stomach..." It is inevitable that life die in the process of eating (even though they lack a nervous system, plants are alive too). By the way, I can spell too. How nice of you to correct me on my imperfect english when you substitue capitalization for spelling. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that I have anywhere near perfect english, but dont correct someone when your system isnt as perfect as you would like it to be. Juxtapose your english and eating habits, I'm sure you will see the similarities too.
believe me, I did not become a vegetarian overnight. far from it! rest assured I am well educated on my decision.
I apologize for the randomness of my statement "it annoys me that people assume that I will attack them when they eat meat." I had actually been thinking along those lines before I read this entry and it was bound to come up in conversation sometime. so that wasn't really included in my argument against what you were saying, just a random thought {I do have a bad habit of throwing stuff like that into conversation} so as for all this: "And in no way did I imply that she was pressing her belief on me. Nor did I imply that she was attacking me. " etc etc is pretty much thrown out because I wasn't saying the contrary in the first place, just stating a random thought of mine.
I would appreciate it if you could send your aforementioned article so I could better 'educate' myself on the detrimental effects of harvesting so I can further argue my point {though I'm sure you're already sick of me by now, ha}.
"Im not saying that I have anywhere near perfect english, but dont correct someone when your system isnt as perfect as you would like it to be. Juxtapose your english and eating habits, I'm sure you will see the similarities too." lol, I JUST GOT BURNED. I have to admit that I like the fact that you insulted me in a way pertaining to our conversation rather than just calling me a stupidhead. I love your use of the word 'juxtaposition' as well, that word doesn't come up often enough in conversation!
I once again have to apologize{though I am in no way apologizing for my opinion}- I'm sorry if my correction of your spelling bothered you. I was in a bit of a rush when I wrote all of that so I basically just wrote down whatever random thoughts came into my head. the above was my opinion, but don't take my words too seriously. believe me, if I was in any way angry I WOULD BE TYPING LIKE THIS. and my english is far far far from perfect, and it goes completely out the window when I'm chatting on the internet {for me, capitalization [when used over the internet] is for names, places, and angry words only. punctuation is optional for the most part as well, except for apostrophes which you left out frequently, to my annoyance. strange things like that get to me..hypocritically, I know}
so, to put it simply, I apologize if I upset you in any way by my random comments and correction of your english {though I found it ironically amusing that you went on and on about 'educating' oneself and then misspelled the subject you were discussing}, and I would love to read any articles from which I could benefit.
I'm still young and open to other opinions, but I would require further persuasion than what you have offered to change the similarities of my use of the english language and eating habits.
..oh, and as far as my grammar goes, I encourage you to correct me whenever I make the slightest error, if you are so inclined.
(http://maddox.xmission.com/grill.html)(Please note that I do not share all of the views that he holds). And believe it or not, you literally ate meat one day and didnt the next. Not trying to be offensive, Im just saying thats the only way it happens. Even though you may cut down on meat intake over a period of time, vegetarianism takes place a defined point in time. I assumed that you thought that i was the one assuming that you were attacking me because I ate meat because most of the rest of the comment was based on me. And although you may have found it amusing that i was eduacting about a subject I msspleed [misspelled] I find it more amusing that the original person of discussion on this comment board may have known how to spell it, but could not come up with a logical reason for participating in it. And again, I am not persuading anybody to leave their habits, but to learn more about them.
although what you are saying is literally true, vegetarianism really is a gradual process- that's not really what I meant though. what i meant was that I researched every aspect of vegetarianism before I actually became one.
"ate meat one day and didnt the next" I really don't understand your point in that, since literally you are alive one day and dead the next, though that statement in itself could not fully express the meaning held in an entire lifetime.
oh man, I misspelled 'misspelled' recently. it was lovely. I spelled it with one 's', jeeeeeeeeez.
" find it more amusing that the original person of discussion on this comment board may have known how to spell it, but could not come up with a logical reason for participating in it." I am going to have to ask you to elaborate on that statement, if you could.
PS this is completely unrelated, but since you have the luxury of knowing who I am, I would
Your metaphor of life and death may sound fine, but assuming this analogy (life:death::process to becoming a vegetarian:being a vegetarian) it doesnt make sense. Saying that you are a vegetarian is like saying George Washingtom is dead. Altough a process was involved in both cases, there is a clear point where one side of the analogy turns into the other side.
" find it more amusing that the original person of discussion on this comment board may have known how to spell it, but could not come up with a logical reason for participating in it." You found it humorous that I couldnt spell the topic correctly, but was educating on it. I found it humorous that she may have been able to spell it, but was uneduacted on her reasoning for participating in it.
And since it was Kendra who disclosed your name to me, I figured I would give her the honor of disclosing mine to you.
"vegetarians don't know what cold-blooded murderers they really are."*
that is ridiculous. and I'm not really in the mood to continue this tiresome debate, since we are both obviously set in our own opinions.
I don't like meat, I don't like its taste. I don't like eating animals. I don't have to justify this to anyone. as much as it is your choice to eat meat, it is mine to not eat meat. I realize that if you have a problem with our decision, this will probably not affect us in any way unless you continue to argue endlessly- it will be your problem alone.
don't bother kendra about it anymore since it makes her angry. it is completely pointless for you to explain why she should have the "right" reasons for being a vegetarian since she isn't protesting on the street that meat is murder or telling you that she has a problem with your decisions.
*also, it would be nice if you found a more credible source, I have doubts about that one
In language, a metaphor is a rhetorical trope where a comparison is made between two seemingly unrelated subjects. Typically, a first object is described as being a second object. In this way, the first object can be economically described because implicit and explicit attributes from the second object can be used to fill in the description of the first.
you are alive one day and dead the next=not a metaphor
whoa guys, sorry i missed all this debating for a baseball game! it's greg shields. and i'm not a good arguer or point maker, so i won't say anything else

rocksyoursocks56 (11:41:40 PM): i mean, its their choice
DementedDrSuess (11:42:09 PM): that the usual reason for not eating meat is that animals are killed when people eat meat
