ALL POLITICS | our local is composed of two sections. The first half of the book concentrates on the works of Edward Burtynsky, Chris Jordan, and Craig Damrauer - all of which focus their artwork on the massive-scale effects of waste, global warming, and our throw-away society.
The second half of the book, our local, highlights the works of Roman Jaster, Die Electric, Flickr photo pools, and myself. All of the work in the second section is a collection of micro personal interventions that comment on how these problems can be handled at a personal level.
In addition to the artists, essays were included. One essay was an excerpt from the book Gone Tomorrow by Heather Rodgers. The second was an essay written by Charles Moore, on the topic of the North Pacific Gyre.
The tactility of this book is also very important. There was no set format for how the artists would be displayed, therefore the artwork dictated the design. There are pull-outs, different paper stocks (color + texture), french folded sections, double-sided sections, etc. The cover was also designed to collect dirt, fingerprints, and whatever else it comes in contact with overtime.
The purpose of ALL POLITICS | our local is to hopefully encourage its readers to evaluate their daily lives and make small changes to reduce their ecological footprint. I was responsible for the research, concept development, and of course the design + production of the book.
