wine-poached pears

i’m s’posed to give my 2023 and 2024 some thought now that i have a wee bit more brain space being alone in hk instead of busy with everyone in sg. but i’m still tired and lazy, so see how. i just wanna say that this year one of my resolutions (the only one i’ve come up with so far) is that i hope to be able to make poached pears in red wine once. but the ingredients required just seem like i may never use them ever again, not sure if it’s worth all the trouble, lol.

things like vanilla extract, cardamom, star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, etc etc. i actually don’t even really like the taste of all that, hahaha. wonder if substituting some of that can still produce something nice tasting. let’s see how many years i’ll take to actually get around to this resolution. (since my last cooking resolution of making jiaozi from scratch was made in like 2014 and i fulfilled it only in 2022, i think, and only with the help of my auntie and cousins and sister and all, lol.)
