Click to viewused a version of this song i randomly found via ig music on an ig story of mine, and then a hk friend made me listen to this version by this chinese singer and then sent me a whole long list of other songs by this guy that i'm s'posed to listen to too and then claimed that she's "not a super fan la", lol. but anyway, i listened to this one vid and think i definitely like this hua chenyu's version much better cos it's so much more emotive. it also made me take a closer look at the song's lyrics, which i think are very meaningful indeed. (tho i have no idea what "via via" is s'posed to mean...)
再多平凡的道路中也会有起有落有喜有悲 and i guess it's what makes us all the more human. parts of the lyrics also made me think they might be a good reflection of what the hk pro-dems might have felt since 2019. i cannot claim to know their thoughts intimately, since many of them feel that outsiders "just don't understand". but for a very passionately pro-dem/anti-estab young hk person to identify so closely with a mandarin song by an extremely chinese singer who rose from a chinese reality show that's a hot favourite on the mainland, is quite interesting to me and makes me think there's a lot of truth in some officials' belief that the best way for hk to nurture national identity in its no-longer-schooling younger generation is really through its pop culture soft power.
