on learning

felt like giving thefridayfive a go today.

1. What was a skill you were proud to learn as a kid?
was really glad to finally learn how to ride a two-wheeler bike in primary school; was quite a late learner back then and never quite got to learn rollerblading, though i picked up ice skating on my own while pontanging classes in secondary school, haha. on skills i am proud i picked up as a kid (but didn't think anything of back then), i think that would be doing my own housework, changing bedsheets, scrubbing my school shoes and school bags, vacuuming/mopping, etc etc. was shocked after i grew up and discovered that many of my peers had never done that on their own before and were actually quite hapless at it... like, wtf right, lol.

2. What's something you used to be good at, but can't do any more?
those algebraic/quadratic equations, dy/dx, integration, and everything we ever did at maths in sec school and jc. practised enough (and my parents spent enough tuition money) for me to get As for all those maths subjects in the major exams, but nowadays i look at the tricky psle maths questions and cannot even find enough focus to finish solving the whole question, heh.

3. What's something you haven't done in a long time, but you could pick it right back up again with some practice?
newspaper page design. and maybe very mediocre, basic cooking?

4. What can you teach others to do?
hmm, dunno. best ways to clean their house thoroughly? lol. how to write good, tight factual essays or imaginative descriptive fiction or succinct summaries. maybe also how to repot their plants properly and give them plenty of the tlc they need... though still a bit amateur in that field, haha.

5. What would you like to learn next?
wow, so much, i don't really know where to start. storyboarding for videos maybe, though that's not particularly high up on my list. in my fantasies, i kinda wanna pick up becoming an interior designer so i can experiment on home designs on other people's money, lol. would also be interested to go through a formal chinese-to-english translation course (though not so much interpretation). want to pick up how to do freestyle/frontcrawl and backstroke properly, and also want to brush up on my german... things i know i will probably never find the time to do ever again, zzz.
