[Maturity is knowing you were an idiot in the past]*

So just for the sake of updating...

I wrote a while back about having purchased a digital camera from a girl on one of my communities here and prayed out loud (well, typed it out) that it wouldn't be the same as the fiasco I had when tried buying a Sailor Moon DVD box set using a money order a few years back. I suppose it's the Universe's prerogative for the ironic that in expressing my hopes for a smooth transaction, I found that it has been anything but.

I made the dumb mistake of paying with my checking account, so it had taken several days for it to clear. Once it did, I let two days pass before I sent an email bringing it to the seller's attention, also hoping that this would start a dialog with her.

Nothing.

I sent other correspondences to her and didn't hear a single word back.

After over a week from being advised that she had received my payment and I having not received my camera, I put in a dispute with the site used for the transaction.

Shortly after that, finally I got a hold of her. As it turns out, she was unable to communicate with me due to very personal reasons. I feel a bit bad about having pressed her to respond during her time of involuntary unavailability, but am thankful that in the messages I had sent, there wasn't an excessively snide tone to them.

Even then, once we talked, a final solution has remained elusive. For even though I take her word for it that she has provided me a valid reason for it, the fact that I have no other recourse should I hand her over my money and she doesn't send me the camera has left me incredibly wary.

So what's happened now, I've spoken to the site's customer service twice, and my best option is to escalate this to a claim so that they may get involved in resolving our dispute. The seller and I were able to work things out as to me paying her for shipping so that she could send me the camera and once I receive it, I agree to pay her for it. This is what I outlined in the claim and hope that the site will facilitate that.

The escalation happened on Sunday night and I should allow it a few days for the people at the site to review it before I hear anything. Hopefully there'll be a satisfactory end to this mess.

*Gotta love QC, always providing such excellent parables for the post-modern world.
