This evening was a rare treat for me. For far too long have I not been able to enjoy the simple (read: free) pleasures of hanging out in a park at night with a good friend and wax creative.
As I have such high hopes for making my comic transition from my mind to an actual visual work, I decided that I need to do some basic infrastructural brain-storming. So, with Steven's help, we traversed various old favorite locales (Himmel Park and the U of A Library) for some ambiance. While at these lovely places, I was able to suss out the main characters, a general plot line and settings for this comic. Basically, it's gonna be the less-mundane version of the various mundane goings-on in my life. Yes, since I'm masterminding it, I've also decided to make myself the main character. It's a bit ego-centric, I'll grant you, but I think that if one's gonna make a serial about the happenings in the lives of yourself and those around you, the sense lies in you being in the center of it all. At least I believe it to be so.
So in all there are four other main characters plus several other recurring characters. I won't name the main ones, but of the recurring minor characters, I made the bold choice of including my ex as one of them. Not for any specific reason other than as a plot device. One of the story elements I would like to have is of my ill-starred relationship with him. It makes for a very Lifetime-y story arc.
Now this isn't to say that my comic is gonna be one battered-housewife, movie-of-the-week, after school special, weepy, sappy vaginafest - far from it. I'm not ruling out the fact that there may be a storyline in there that smacks of a Valerie Bertanelli movie, but the more common mode in my serial will be one of dry humor, sarcasm and even a bit of slapstick.
I also did a primary sketch of the main characters. I would love to be able to put them up and show people. The damnable mess however, is that I don't have a scanner handy.
Anyway... bed beckons and the last day of work before 48 glorious hours of freedom awaits.
the year of acceleration,
