Wow. This girl can really sing. I went to her concert today at the E-Center in West Valley. We arrived early, around 6:30 in the evening. Time flew by and the concert began. A girl named Butterfly Boucher (her last name is pronounced Bowchair!) opened the show. She's also got a cool Australian accent. At first I thought her music was kinda wierd, but she's not so bad. Apparently she's quite talented. She writes her own music, plays the guitar and does the lead vocals. I wish I had bought her cd. I feel bad cause at the end, she said "You know I have a felt-tip marker and I'm dying to use it!" She sang a good 5-6 songs.
Then the main act arrived! The curtains didn't open till 5 minutes to nine. Which was surprising cause Butterfly ended around 8:25. The wait seemed like an eternity. I was beginning to think there was some tech problem or something wrong with Sarah. Anyway, the curtains withdrew and a gorgeous set came into view. Imagine a semi-circle of columns surrounded by tree trunks and branches jutting out into the sky. On the floor lay green grass and a couple more tree trunks. In the background were two white screens framed with a fancy red rose trim. The audience roared in applause and Sarah began to sing. I can't remember what song it was actually, but her voice was so crystal clear and just beautiful so beautiful. She wore a burgandy shirt with a sparkling floral design (perhaps rose) and jeans.
What annoyed me kinda was a couple who sat in front of us. They obviously loved Sarah as well cause they couldn't keep their hands off each other. seriously. They needed to get a room.
The arena was pretty packed. I was amazed at how many other Sarah Mclachlan fans there are. I think the audience was really cool too. They kept cheering her on and stood up for most of her songs. Me included.
I never expected the concert to be so good. I was just wow, so taken by her voice. She is seriously talented. As a friend once told me, "if angels could sing it would be her!" I think she really loved the audience as well and was feeding off the energy because she gave it her all. She was cute too. She talked about how much she loved motherhood. Breastfeeding was something else. I think she said "As soon as the baby latched on, my brain came out."
I loved the background. The lighting and the set was just so cool.
I normally don't say this, but I'm glad I got tickets to the show. It was worth it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone and would love to see it again!
It was also cool to see her husband Ashwin. He was the drummer. He seems quite nice!
I also thought it was cool that she moved around so much. She never stayed in the same spot twice. She started in the center and then moved to the left corner to play the piano or over to the far right corner to play the acoustic guitar.
I can't remember all the songs on the program but there were so many. She sang a lot of songs from her new album. Fallen, Angel, I will remember you, Adia, Sweet Surrender, Black Bird, Train Wreck, Stupid,Push,Perfect Girl...
After hearing her concert, I definitely wanna go out and get some more of her cds. She's just, okay i'll say it again. Wowzzers!
Okay, that's enough of my spiel. Oh, I also forgot to mention that her concert ended at 11:00pm with drops of rain falling upon ground just outside.
A side note** I wish I had taken my camera! So you could believe how incredible it was.
