LONG overdue entry

Aug 02, 2007 09:45

SO contrary to popular belief, I have NOT fallen off the face of the earth; weird I know. I feel like I've become more of a LJ watcher than a participant, but today I have felt the urge to update.

Hmmm let's see, well it looks like I haven't updated in like 6 months, so there is a little to catch up on. The school year at the high school ended really well, I still absolutely LOVE my job. The spring was not as crazy as the fall, but still kept me pretty busy. I learned to enjoy softball and baseball more than I ever thought possible, which is cool.

I HAVE A BOYFRIEND!! We started dating in March, and I'm really happy. His name is Kevin and I originally met him last summer when I worked at the TPC. He was/is one of the chefs there, and from the start I had a little crush on him, but being the chicken shit I am, never did anything about it. Fast forward to the end of February when I randomly ran into him at a bar in downtown Detroit. We exchanged numbers and he called me the next day, but I was scared and didn't know what to say, so I didn't call him back. The next week he text me and we both realized we were hanging out in Dearborn, so he came over to the bar my friends and I were at and hung out. We went out a week later to the Town Pump, and then the next week he took me to dinner, and we've been together ever since. On the surface he is a very tough person to read; doesn't show much emotion. Once you get to know him, he opens up and he is very sweet, really funny, and very respectful. He's everything I knew guys had it in them to be, which is relieving. He calls when he says he will. He shows up when he says he will. He tells me if there is a problem. He's mostly okay with the fact that all of my coworkers are male. He loves sports and loves that I love sports. 90% of the time he is very level headed. He is very considerate of me. He has goals and ambitions in life, and so far has done very well for himself. He's a chef, which I LOVE. He's goofy. He loves to travel as much as I do. He up and went to Italy for 2 weeks in May just because he had never been there. If we're still together by Christmas, we're booking tickets to go to Paris for 2 weeks in June. He's really close with his family, and he makes a really concerted effort to hang out with my crazy clan. Despite our nutty schedules, he makes it a point to call me every night and figure out a way to see me atleast twice to three times a week. The only semi-negative thing to say is that he's sort of a commitment phobe, but once we crossed that hurdle of boyfriend/girlfriend, we're doing awesome. I'm crazy about him, and I think he kinda likes me too ;o)

This summer, because I don't have to go into the high school, I'm working at a strength and conditioning center in Troy called CORE. It's co-owned by Kris Draper, of the Red Wings and Dr. Pierce, the sports med doctor I have signed on with and will refer my kids to this year. He and his team did physicals with us this year, and I was really pleased with their attention to detail and red flags for possible injuries. They ran how sports med physicals are SUPPOSED to run. I'm working 2-3 days a week, 12 hour days here, and I think I'm learning a lot. I decided to take this job because I'm really interested in getting my certification for Strength and Conditioning, or my CSCS; Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. It's the gold standard of strength and conditioning certifications and at the very least would look really good on a resume. Without a doubt, I hate doing physical therapy, but I really enjoy taking people from a already base athletic state and making them stronger, faster, and all around better at their sport. My goal by Christmas is to have studied and take the exam. 90% of the time, I'm the only girl here, which is nothing new for me. 2 of the guys I work with are hockey players, which is SO much fun, and the other 2 are ATC's like me. Hopefully during the school year I can come in 1 day a week in the morning and maybe on Saturdays. The paycheck will hopefully cover the crazy fall nights at the bar after football :o)

Speaking of bar nights after football, Monday morning, bright and early at 6:45 AM I'll be in my training room getting kids ready for Football 2-a-days. As nervous as I am to restart with all of the crazy injuries, I'm excited too. I miss the kids and I miss being out there. I think one of the things working at CORE this summer has taught me is that I couldn't work inside all day. I like being able to bounce from practice to practice. The week after, all of the rest of the fall sports start their tryouts and I'll be back into the thick of it. Thankfully, all August practices for the most part are in the morning, so I'll be done by 2 PM-ish.

As far as my family, they are as crazy as ever. 3 weeks ago, my dad had a pacemaker put in, which was rather unexpected for all of us. He had not been feeling well for months and was going through every test in the book to find out what was wrong with him. Finally, he happened to be at the cardiologist's office when an episode hit him and his heart rate dropped into the low 30's, then farther into the teens. If you know anything about heart rates, is supposed to be in the high 60's to 70's, so he started setting off the alarms on the blood pressure machine. He as admitted into Royal Oak Beaumont and had a pacemaker put in the next morning. The device is working really well and he feels great.

My sister is pregnant and is due in the middle of September! We're all really excited about it and she's getting bigger by the moment. We think it's a girl. I say we think, because every time she goes in for an ultrasound the baby is never turned the right way so they only get profile views, lol.But if it does turn out to be a girl, her name is going to be Addison Ava Franz. I've gotta say, I LOVE IT. If it's a boy, I think they've settled on Matthew Thomas, but who knows. My niece Emma, is 4 and is very excited about the idea of having a baby sister. My sister goes on maternity leave next week, so it'll be interesting to see how long she goes without being stir crazy.

My mom is doing really well. Busy as usual, her high time is during the summer and she's taking full advantage of it. Lately she's been in a really good mood, which is awesome. As usual, I'm trying to hang out with her and Dad as much as I can. Seriously, one of the best and strongest women I have ever met in my life, and I don't want to miss out on that. I'm reminded everyday how short life is, so my goal is to spend as much time with the people that are important to me as possible.

In light of this, I'm debating on relighting some old friendships, or atleast attempting to. There are some people in my past that were really amazing that I have lost touch with, and I'm trying to figure out whether I should try and get back in contact with them. I'm in this dilemma because I'm a firm believer that people come in and out of your life at certain times for certain purposes. I'm also a firm believer that people are always meant to teach you something, even if it's teaching you how you would NOT like to be. One of these people is Danny. Before he and I dated, he was one of my best and closest friends. There are some days I seriously miss him, and have thought a number of times about e-mailing him to see how he is doing. Now, please don't mistake this, I'm not looking to DATE him again, we all know how well that ended the first time, I have a boyfriend I'm crazy about, I just miss my friend. Another one is Angelo, whom I worked with at Red Robin. He's actually the cousin of a girl I went to high school with, and is a really great person. He was a huge Dave Matthews fan, and had a great personality and sense of humor, which I really enjoyed. Also, my friend Shannon from high school. I get news about her from Courtney, but I don't think I've actually spoken to her in about a year. When I left for college, our friendship kinda fell apart, and to this day I regret it. I need a little feedback here, so help a sister out.

Overall, life is going really well. I'm insanely busy with work, Kevin, and getting ready for the new school year to start, but I'm having a ball.
