Heh. No, it's cool -- I freely admit that it doesn't sound like it makes sense. My acupuncturist isn't into explaining the mumbo-jumbo of it, but from what she's told me, there are "patterns" in Chinese medicine -- kind of like humors, it sounds like. Mine is one that tends to get "clogged," bogged down in things -- so from a Chinese medicine perspective, my digestive issues and depression are connected. It sounds nuts, but I actually found that comforting; I think that *is* an accurate assessment of my personality's downsides, and I loved being treated as a whole person whose body fits together, rather than a collection of unrelated symptoms and parts.
So the needles... draw the energy around, I guess? Keep it flowing in the right direction? Keep all the elements balanced? I don't understand it well enough at all to explain.
Needles don't bother me at all (two allergy shots a week for years will make even the wussiest kid blase), so I can't speak to that part. I'm not going to lie: sometimes the needles hurt a bit going in. Depends on the location and the day. But they really are tiny, and the pain (when it happens at all) disappears almost right away. I'm definitely not lying there going "Ow there are needles in me oh god ow!"
I'd say, give it a try! It's certainly not going to do any harm. (Except that it costs money, I guess. So give it a try if you can afford it.)
