In this world you tried
not leaving me alone behind.

“Come with me Claire, I don’t want you to be alone right now.” Leon whispered to her as she lay still in her bed, her back turned to him.

There's no other way.

“I’m not leaving Chris.” She said firmly, not even bothering to look at him.

Lacking the strength to think straight about his farewell, Leon turned his back on her for the last time before leaving her room, closing the door gently behind him.

I prayed to the gods let him stay.

“He just left the room. He’s coming back. He’s coming back.” Claire told herself in a whispered voice.

After a few silent moments, the sound of a car taking off down the street filled her ears. She shut her eyes tight and let the tears fall from them, thinking, “God no. Make him come back, don’t take Leon away from me.”

The memories ease the pain inside,
now I know why.

A few days later, Claire now knew he wasn’t coming back. The only way she found she could leave the comfort of her room was with memories of him. They seemed to comfort her broken spirit, giving her reasons to leave.

All of my memories keep you near.

Claire walked by his room in the apartment. She pushed the door open and looked into the empty room. Her eyes fell upon his bed, where memories of them playing video games awaited her patiently.

In silent moments imagine you here.

“Hey Claire, don’t just stand there. I got this new game, come check it out!”

Claire felt her eyes beginning to swell up. She could practically hear and see him sitting on his bed with a controller in his hands, smiling excitedly at her.

All of my memories keep you near.
Your silent whispers, silent tears.

“Claire, its okay.” Leon hushed, wrapping his strong arms around Claire as she continued to weep on his shoulder. He fought back the urge to release his own tears as he held her shaking figure tightly to himself.

Made me promise I'd try
to find my way back in this life.

“Okay. He’s gone Claire. He’s been gone for weeks now, and he’s not coming back. It’s about time to get over it and get back to the normal routine of things.” Claire muttered to herself, looking in the mirror at her reflection.

I hope there is a way
to give me a sign you're ok.

Claire sat patiently by the phone, not knowing herself why she was sitting there waiting to hear from a man who had disappeared from her life for the past few months.

“Just give me a sign. Please Leon; just tell me you’re okay…”

Remind me again it's worth it all
so I can go on.

“Leon...let me know somehow that you’re okay. Let me know you’ve moved on so I can. Remind me our friendship is worth everything I’m feeling now. Let me move on…”

Together in all these memories
I see your smile.

Leon looked over at Claire as she watched Chris kiss Jill at the alter. She glanced away for a second to see Leon smiling happily at her.

Claire looked up from her newspaper and looked at the door, her eyes resting on Leon as he stood there, covered in snow with a box of pizza in his hands, panting and grinning, lifting the box up triumphantly.

Claire let out a yell as her character gave Leon’s a final punch before he fell to the floor. She looked over at him as she shook his head, his lips curved into a smile. “You beat me again…”

All the memories I hold dear.

No matter what happens, or who would ever come into Claire’s life, the memories she had of Leon would never leave her. They would be with her until she parted from this world. You should never let go of the things you cherish most.

Darling, you know I will love you
until the end of time.

“I love you Leon. I always will.” Claire whimpered looking into the only picture she had left of her and Leon together. “Why didn’t I ever tell you that when I had the chance?”

All of my memories…
