Video ☼ One

[Light appears to be sitting at a bench indoors somewhere as the video feed turns on; he must have found some shelter given the chilly weather outside.] Well, it's about time I gave this a try... [He glances around a bit awkwardly at first, before clearing his throat to speak up.]

To anyone who's watching this, I'm Light Yagami, and I suppose you ( Read more... )

Just as a warning, if someone hasn't told you yet, your dreams are broadcast over this thing.

Heh, thanks, but I already knew about that.

It's honestly a bit unsettling... not to mention I find the whole idea of dreaming inside a dream to be pretty strange if this really is one.

What, you've never had a dream where you woke up from a dream, got ready for school, and then woke up again?

Well, I've heard of it, but sadly I've never had the experience of one. In any case, this is a lot more than just a dream within a dream... what we're really talking about is a collection of other people's individual dreams within one single, greater dream that we all seem to be simultaneously experiencing... if that even makes any sense.

In a way, it's like an entire web of dreams... and after a point, I can imagine it becoming incredibly confusing, not to mention depressing. How can we even begin to decipher which dream level is reality when there's so many dreams being flung around? It just doesn't sit well with me.

No, that makes sense. Hmm... it's something to think about. I haven't been here all that long, though... only around a month or so.

That's... still pretty long, if you ask me.

I mean, considering the average length of a dream in its own context is probably around less than a day... a month is just... well, it's definitely abnormal.

True. Though really, I think I would prefer that this were reality over the situation in my own world... so I guess I should be thankful the dream has lasted this long.

Sadly, you're not the first I've heard say something along those lines...

Personally, I think it's fruitless to get caught up in what could just be pure fantasy. A dream world may seem preferable to you, but it's only a matter of time until it ends, so I wouldn't get too attached. The sooner I 'wake up', the faster I'm able to move on with what actually matters to me.

True enough. Then again, I doubt you're fighting what could essentially be called a war.

I wouldn't say that I am, but honestly, it's better to face those trials and tribulations rather than attempt to escape from them.

In my opinion, anyway. You're free to take priority in whatever you choose.

True. I'll have to go back at some point, anyway.

[He shrugs.]

True. Anyway, is there really no way to prevent your dreams from being broadcast to the public, or is it just something everyone here has to put up with?

There is, but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. It involves some programming skill... and that's more my cousin's area of expertise, not mine.

Your cousin, huh? What's his name - that is, if you don't mind me asking?

His name's Naoya. And my name's Kiyoshi.

Ah, thanks. It's been an interesting talk, Kiyoshi. As you've probably already heard, I'm Light.
