John Butler

Well, I feel like I should write about this, so that I don't forget it. Warning: No cut, I'm too lazy.

John Butler Trio was awesome. I met Gul in Freo at around four, it was supposed to be 3:30, but I was late when helping Eloise's sister. We shopped, ate and then managed to chase a CAT bus and we were off to the Freo art centre.

We stood in line for ages, and then Jake showed up. THen we stood in the line a bit more. Then we managed to get into the centre, got a spot to put our stuff close to the front, and went to the toilet. The toilets were awesome. But then Gul bought a shirt and I signed lots of uranium petitions.

Carus and The True Believers were the starting act, and they played some great stuff and really got everyone into a good mood. Plus they were just plain cool, they had a song about how crap Big Brother is and another one about how Pauline Hanson should be shot. Then, of course, it was time for John Butler. It was so crowded near the stage, we were less than two metres away. The show started with a tradional Aboriginal introduction, which was made of awesome.

The band played a lot of stuff, most of it well known. Then the drummer and bassist went offstage and John Butler played Ocean, talking about spirituality, which I found really interesting. Unfortunately, a lot of people talked during that song. He also played Peaches and Cream by himself, and kept 'forgetting' how the introduction went, and didn't get it until someone yelled "E minor!". That was a truly great song, with everyone singing along to the point that during the choruses John stood away from the microphone. And everyone was crying. There was a kickass drum solo, and an even better bass solo. Eventually, we got tired of standing after two and a half hours, so we went and sat back down.

The music was great, but I have to say the crowd was really interesting.

There was a really muscular man in a home-made t-shirt that said Bound To Ramble (which is a John Butler song) that was crying as John played.
Then a really hot guy standing in front of me, talking to me and his little brother.
There was a guy a few people away from me who was really tall with blonde hair, a white hat and a bright orange Andy Warhol t-shirt. He was great, kept yelling things like "You're a fucking legend, Johnny!", which was actually kinda cool.
After we sat back down, there was these twins, who were really attractive, and dressed slightly like Lyndon. In fact, they looked kinda like Lyndon. And then they were dancing next to us.
And, of course, Gul and I hippy danced with a random guy with dreadies and lime green pants.

God, I had the best night and have missed out a lot of awesome things that happened.
