Maybe Australia needs more signs like the one in my icon. The first kangas that I've seen on this trip were dead ones. Australian roadkill. Sad. :(
But other than the dead kangas, I had a really nice weekend. Tanya and I left for Rockhampton early Saturday morning, a town about three hours away. We made the time fly by singing to lots of IG and me gawking at the scenery (that was mostly me). We were actually going to a town right on the coast called Yeppoon where Tanya's grandparents (The Olds) were staying in a camper park for a vacation. The scenery was amazing. We were driving through some decent sized hills (or small mountains) and all of a sudden, there's the ocean! I'm used to the Texas coast, which is flatter than flat. This coast was full of rocky hills and even islands off in the distance. A strange concept to me.
So beautiful. When we arrived, they took us to a town in the bush called Mt. Morgan. Not much is happening out in Mt. Morgan except coal mining. But we ate lunch in a pub and then drove back into town. Tanya and I went for a walk on the beach and then came back for dinner.
Sunday, we woke up early and went to the markets in Yeppoon. There were lots of neat things for sale there. The Olds took us for a drive around Yeppoon, which is really quite a nice town. Primarily its a tourist stop, but would be a nice place to live regardless. Tanya and I went down to the beach again when we got back for a swim. We got in the water despite how cold it was. Dumb idea. Ha.
