Now in Krakow, Poland.
Things I have survived:
3 hours in a not-heated train car between Romania and Bulgaria. 10 hours in a heated sleeper car thereafter, however unfortunately accompanied by a rather racist romanian. She believed a little terrorist exists in the heart of every arab... or so she said. And the fight about why the *N* word is not a word for a black person (she believed it was perfectly fine to use since it is derived from a latin word for black) ended with Alex screaming "you would NEVER say my coat is nigger!"
Greece was great and very warm. We met many a fine dutch and australian set of folks, Alex got 2 stitches in her head and we finally took that picture of us pretending to be Plato in front of the Acropolis,
After this we survived 49 hours on trains back from Athens to Krakow, including 5 separate trains, one of which was a 15 hour over-nighter from Sofia, Bulgaria to Budapest, Hungary via Serbia. Now every time we sleep I have a haunting feeling that any minute some scary man will pound on my door and scream "PASSPORT CONTROL!" Whatever... it was cheaper than a plane or something.
And then yesterday we visited Auschwitz, today we did a castle and the Jewish museums in Krakow and I finally learned what the box that some jewish people strap to the top of their head and arms when praying is. I really had no idea before.
Back in the US in 8 days.
