[The roof is where Sasuke comes for peace and quiet--to sit with his tuna and tomato on multigrain bread and forget that the rest of the world exists for a while

[The minute Sasuke had made the suggestion Naruto set his heart of aquiring a violin for Sasuke.
It was the reason he'd been sneaking around near the music room - and he'd promtply gone hunting for the littlest Uchiha. He kicked open the door to the roof terrace, arms full of violin case.]
There you are! I've been lookin' like everywhere for you dattebayo!
[The look on Sasuke's face makes his own capsize, and in juggling the violin and his free-school lunch he almost drops it, looking up at Sasuke with wide eyes, clearly waiting for a telling off.]
[...sigh. Technically, since he's a student, it's not stealing--and it would feel good to play again.
He puts down his tuna and takes the case, opening it up and crouching next to it. There's resin inside, and he tightens the bow and begins to apply, the movements smooth and natural.]
[The fact that he isn't being told off makes him calm down almost instantly, and he hands over the violin, crouching down too and watching as he works on the strings.]
Uhm-- Well, I just thought you got like-- littler hands than me...
[Gives a requisite frown, but he's hardly paying attention anymore--a few plucks to the strings seem to prove the instrument in tune, miraculously, and he stands up and sets it under his chin.
Perhaps the piece that drove him to enough frustration to smash his violin against the wall isn't the best piece to start with after a six-month break, but his fingers start to play Sarasate of their own accord.
He hits a wrong note barely a moment in.]
Fuck.
[Glancing down at Naruto--he starts again, fingers aching from holding the neck so tightly.] It's been a while.
[Quietly he sits down, leaning back so that his palms are flat against the floor, watching as Sasuke plays-- at least until he stops suddenly, pursing his lips he leans up again and stands to his feet, sheepishly taking a step closer.]
Well-- if it's been a long time, you won't be able to just play it again. Kinda looks like it's hurt your fingers...
[Without a thought he takes hold of the neck in one hand, leaning down to look at a level with the violin, trying to see under Sasuke's fingers.]
...you're uncomfortably close. [Frowns, but doesn't actually move to push Naruto away--not for a moment, at least.] Fuck. My knuckles are going white again, aren't they. I...[and he moves, consciously loosening his grip--] get tense when I play.
[He resets the violin under his chin.] There's another piece I know, but it's incurably maudlin. Don't make fun of me.
[And he ignores the feeling in his chest as he slides into Love Theme--solely because it's the only other piece he has the muscle memory for at the moment.
[He says nothing else, letting his hands drop and the space between them increase-- only a little. He likes watching Sasuke play, and there's something about how it sounds that makes him feel... quiet.
He doesn't even know what maudlin is, but he's not making fun of Sasuke-- not at all. Just standing, watching-- perhaps a little too intently.]
[Sai had entered the roof top, looking either for Gaara or Temari, who could tell him where Gaara was. One of them was usually up here at some point for one reason or another. Instead though, he finds Sasuke and Naruto sat beside each other. Not only that, but it appears that Sasuke is playing some sort of love serenade on his violin. Should he say hello, or leave them to it?]
[Sasuke doesn't notice Sai--he's too absorbed in the feeling of strings under his fingertips, which are getting sore. His callouses have faded, but the pain is almost comforting. Familiar.
His eyes are shut as the noise flows over his ears--not quite as clear as his old violin, but clear enough.]
[Naruto, for the most part, would have been satisfied with just sitting here listening-- were it not for his dratted attention span. It doesn't usually bother him, and he can still listen to Sasuke play whilst he looks at something else. He'd dumped his bag somewhere nearby and-- oh it's over there and...]
... [Sai stands there, watching the two of them. They way that Naruto is staring at him intently, the way that Sasuke has his eyes closed and looks.. peaceable, like he is enjoying it. But hadn't they said there was nothing going on between them? It really does not seem the case. Hearing Naruto's voice snaps him out of his thoughts. Since he has been spotted, he may as well walk over and say hi.]
Naruto-kun. I didn't mean to interrupt your little... thing.
[Sasuke finally notices the voice and startles out of his focus, wincing as the bow screeches awkwardly across the strings. He scowls and drops his arms, looking over at Sai and struggling not to fidget--there's no reason he should be embarrassed.]

It even looks like the proper size.

Naruto. Who did you take that from.

Uh-- I got it from the music room.

You aren't interrupting. I'm just messing around.

I did not know you play Violin. Not many people here are really artistic in any way. Nice song choice, was there a reason for that one?
[He glances between the two of them]
Reply
Really.
Frowns, and readjusts the violin under his chin.] Because it's easier than Sarasate?
