DEAR GOD WHY DOES ANYONE LET ME STAY UP PAST 1 AM??? It always ends in something crazy. Right now that's probably fueled by one of the craziest X-Files episodes ever, the Post-Modern Prometheus, being on TV, but anyway, I was just going to do "one more thing" before going to bed, and of course, that didn't work out because a BRAINSTORM! hit me.
And it's one that seems so obvious that I feel like I've thought it before, I just can't remember doing so. It seems so obvious that the actors from the show must have mentioned it... but I can't remember either of those things actually occuring, so it's up to me at 2:30 AM to point it all out to you:
VINCE NOIR IS FREDDIE MERCURY.
So I was thinking tonight about that stylish maverick we all know and love: Vince Noir. The trendiest of the trendy, he predicts the style fads in magazines delivered by NINJAS. But even a master has to start out with a role model...
The dapper outfits that redefine everyday style. The long, black hair born out of rock and roll tradition. The almost feminine hat that you know no guy could ever pull off, yet Vince does... Question is, where have we seen this before?
That's right... on everyone's favorite cheeky, brilliant, amazingly-talented 70s glam rock icon: Freddie Mercury. He had Vince's swag down to an art form decades ago. Everything we've seen our little punk rock man wear, Freddie has already been there, done that.
Peasant tops?
Check.
Low-cut, tight-fitting, chest-bearing onesies?
Check.
Ridiculous(ly cool) red getups that have little practical use?
Check.
Dressing in unflattering drag along with your bandmates?
Come on, do you even have to ask that?
Even the mirrorball suit????
Yep. That too.
But, do not disdain. So our Vincey isn't quite as original as we thought. But isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? And who better for Vince Noir, electro poof, to pay tribute to than the lead singer of Queen? It shows the sheer level of awesomeness that he hopes to one day attain. And style isn't always about originality... didn't we witness Vince brining back the Jacobean ruff? So, who's to say he can't bring back the awesomeness that was Freddie Mercury's fashion sense? If anything, Vince is utilizing it at the right place, at the right time: Back in the 70s and 80s, subcultures were growing, but they hadn't quite reached the level of acceptance that they have today. What were the strangest and most confusing aspects of Freddie's fashion back then have been embraced today by tons of "weird" stars, such as Lady Gaga (she even got her NAME from Freddie! ...well okay, technically from Roger). So, Vince is uniting the awesomeness of these outfits with the time period in which they belong. And personally, I couldn't have asked for a better person to do so.
And as a side note, while Vince IS Freddie, doesn't Howard look exactly like him???
