I suppose I might also add that I continue to believe in O'Brien's redemption despite all his attempts to demoralise and thwart me (and the rest of us, for that matter); and that I have given him a measure of my trust more than once (and lamented his decision to abuse it); and that he is not without an essential humanity that I will continue to attempt to save.
