I'm writing up the sticky post for
hunt_the_lemon which is where the lemons/citrus will be instructing finders to go, and I need to know if I've left out anything important...please proof and suggest! I do realize I might have to work to keep the youtube links current if they are taken down...
So you found a lemon!
Congratulations! To solve the mystery of the lemon, the primary purpose of the citrus is to get you to listen to the audaciously wonderful BBC radio series Cabin Pressure, created by the talented John Finnemore. Go
here (youtube link) to listen to the pilot episode "Abu Dhabi", go
here (youtube link) to listen to the episode in which the game of the travelling lemon is introduced, "Qikiqtarjuaq", or go
here (link to the BBC site) to read about the series in general.
The secondary purpose of the lemon is to entice you to play the game of the travelling lemon in real life!
Did you find a wooden lemon or a live lemon? Both varieties are on the loose! Perhaps you even found another sort of citrus fruit, how exciting! If you found a wooden lemon, the goal is to keep it in play. If you found a live lemon, commonly known as a 'short hop', let us know and send us a pic of the dish you used it in!
Please go to our community
traveling_lemon to look up your lemon and see where it has been. Then, update us and tell us where you found your lemon. Were you having a good day or a bad day? What made you pick up the lemon and find us? Say hi to the travelling lemon community! If you do not have a LiveJournal account, you won't be able to join and post to the community, but you don't have to join to play! Just email hunt.the.lemon.in.rl@gmail.com and we'll post it to the comm for you! Send us as little or as much info as you like, including pictures if you feel so inclined.
Here, in the words of John Finnemore, is the way the travelling lemon game is played:
DOUGLAS: There’s always the Travelling Lemon, for instance?
CAROLYN: Oh, of course - the very thing!
MARTIN: What, what’s that?
DOUGLAS: Not come across the Travelling Lemon, Martin, in all your professional experience? Well, player one strolls through a full passenger cabin, chatting to the adoring public of this or that topic of interest, and as he goes, he casually secretes somewhere where it can still be clearly seen, a lemon or other citrus fruit, as mutually agreed by the players and referees before match play commences, but I’m a traditionalist and favour a lemon.
CAROLYN: And then, player two goes out, finds it, retrieves it, hides it again. Now what’s our record, Douglas?
DOUGLAS: I believe on that night flight to Miami, we achieved a rally of sixteen.
In the virtual world, we who play the game of the travelling lemon in real life leave lemons scattered around in the hopes that they will travel on without us, or simply be used to liven up your chicken - after you've enjoyed an episode of Cabin Pressure, of course!
If you would like to join the game, simply leave a comment to this post and ask to be assigned a specific number of lemons, and we will give you the next numbers in sequence. If you can, let us know if you will be releasing live or wooden citrus fruit. You can tag your lemons however you please with their serial numbers and the same link which brought you here, and then put your lemons into play!
