Many things had made his head whirl over the years. Food poisoning. The first time he drank too much and had to be rescued from under a table in a dark little pub in Glasgow, the one with incredibly ugly carpet that hadn't been improved by being sick all over it. A roller coaster, when he was thirteen. Jenny, kissing him at fourteen, and Alan doing considerably more at sixteen. Getting into medical school. Discovering that everything he'd learned about human biology was only one part of the puzzle. The decision to leave for another galaxy, his arrival there.
None of it compared to facing Major John Sheppard after having nearly shot him out of the sky, and even that was nothing like when John, some six months later, whispered into his ear in the darkness that as first meetings went, that one had been something of a ferris wheel.
