I think Brendon would be caught somewhere between having something sore tug at his heart and being happy that they're opening themselves up to a little bit different way of thinking; that they're accepting people as they are and realizing that treating gay or trans people badly is just treating someone different badly, and that's just wrong. I think he would understand the marriage aspect, because he of all people know what they believe.

I think there would be some sort of, oh come on, you couldn't have done this while I was actually still part of the church? Thing.

(Gay Brendon In My Head taps the cap of his pen against his lower lip a few times and furrows his eyebrows. He emails Pete with a link to the article and a few lines of banter, a little bit more bitter than usual. The subject of the email is: mormons are weird.)

I checked out your journal after you commented on one of my fics (...obviously, I checked it out), and this is an interesting topic to contemplate!

I feel like Brendon, assuming in the course of this topic that he is gay, would hear about this offhandedly and not have much of an opinion at first. Spencer might shrug or says something small and inconsequential like, "Oh, cool," and Brendon would agree without really giving it a thought.

Over the course of a few months, though, he would begin to think of it again - it's not a relevant topic to anyone he knows by this time, so he ponders it in odd snatches. It makes his heart beat that much faster, makes his head and chest ache a little, and he pretends he doesn't know why.

(Also, I ... kind of added you. I hope that's okay! We seem to have a number of compatible interests - the Decemberists, mythology, writing, etc.)

Oh, man, I love it when people respond to these things.

(I love random people adding me! I was trying to figure out where you came from, and I couldn't, but I knew I'd seen your username before, and, yes, totally okay, hi!)

I'mma go figure out which fic was yours, now...
