Oasis make some pretty cool clothes, and the costume department seems to think so too, given that they've been used for several companions over the years. Amy herself actually two bites of the Oasis Jacket cherry, in seasons 5 and 6.
There's a bit of a story with how I got this jacket, in my early days of collecting, and it may be a lesson in Buyer Beware? I'd bid on auction and entered my maximum bid for eBay to work up to, as I wasn't going to be able to keep an eye on it when it was closing. Later, I checked, and I'd been outbid in the final hour or so. It had jumped significantly. Not 10 minutes after the auction ended the seller had messaged me saying that the winning bidder had pulled out because they had bid by mistake, and would I be interested in a Second Chance Offer?
I thought this was incredibly suspicious. For one thing, it's actually kind of difficult to bid by mistake. For another, it seemed very odd to me that the person had, within 10 minutes, contracted the seller, who agreed to cancel, and offer it to me. Thing was, I would now be paying my maximum bid if I agreed to the Second Chance Offer. With all those sus things going on, I declined.
Soon after the seller relisted the jacket at the low price it had originally been listed for. This time I was able to bid at the end of the auction. And this time, I won, and got it at a very good price.
Did the seller have a friend bid to boost up the price? Maybe. There's no proof, just some suspicious circumstances. At any rate my caution paid off.
Now on to the review! This is the most lightweight of Amy's jackets. It's shell is leather, it's body is cotton lined and the sleeves are polyester. The underside of the outer sleeves are ribbed, stretchy cotton. They've used two different kinds of leather on the shell - most of what you see is the shiny stuff, but the waterfall flaps at the front are matte. The waterfall component of the jacket makes it very unusual and gives it the striking sillouhette we know. It's quite a striking effect and looks great with jeans, but unfortunately, not so good with dresses or skirts. There is a tiny silver hook which you can use to fasten the jacket together at the front. Amy wears hers open.
It's a very comfortable jacket to wear, and makes for good autumn or early winter wear. The ribbing on the sleeves means it fits tight to your arms and stops cold breezes nipping up there. It's also a bit dressier than many of her other jackets, and it fits true to size. Mine is a M, which is about a UK12.
The waterfall effect seemed to be quite popular in 2009. It's not really 'in' anymore so it's not hard to find similar jackets on eBay. Oasis have similar ones in black. However, this one is actually not too difficult to find these days. Perhaps it's because the waterfall front has dated and people are selling them; I've actually seen a few of the charcoal colour around lately. At time of writing, you should be able to snap one up without too much trouble or cost.
