A Flat in Brighton, Late Christmas Eve

Dec 24, 2008 20:58

T'was the night before Christmas
And in Valentine's flat,
A Very Important Man was stirring--
No, setting a trap.

The trip-rope was set by the window with care,
In case once again that darned Grinch would be there.
The puppy was nestled all snug in his bed,
While visions of chewy-toys squeaked in his head.

One year to the day ago, Fandom High time,
The green thing had crept on in, grin caked with grime.
And Valentine had, as Valentines tend,
Confused and bedraggled the thief 'till the end.

This year saw another paper tree on the wall,
But not thanks to poverty, no, not at all.
That Important Man, now with Somebody girl,
Kept his Christmas the same, even in this new world.

T'was something familiar, the wax-crayon-tree,
So that man did not mind that their deco was free.
And just like last year, there were gifts on the floor,
Though unlike last year, there were quite a few more.

This made it important, Valentine knew,
To keep the home safe, using feathers and glue!
No Grinches would enter, no Grinches would leave,
And if they even tried, then those Grinches would grieve.

The pail on the doorframe was sitting just right,
And Valentine hoped it would stay through the night.
But just to be sure, there was one thing to check,
So he prodded the door, and he turned up his neck...

Just in time for the bucket to fall on his bean,
With a crash and a clatter and dramatic sheen.
The feathers were everywhere, as was the glue,
And Valentine's plumage was shiny and new.

"A chicken," he grumbled, "is hardly a feat,
"While I was in Fandom, I even went 'Tweet.'"
And, with chicken feathers fast-stuck in his hair,
He turned for the bedroom with crankypants flair.

The Grinch-trap was needless, for no Grinches came,
As feathery Valentines never were sane.
So nothing was damaged through this odd winter night,
Because Valentines don't connect feathers with flight.

[I think most of the people he associated with are away for the holidays, but open for OOC, which is shiny, or phone calls if people do happen to be about. Happy Holidays!]
