[ Sounds of coughing come through the transmitter. When he speaks, he still sounds very calm. And slightly amused. It's been some time since he'd heard a female voice. ]

Miss, you're talking to yourself.

[ A pause. ]

It's the first sign of a psychiatric disorder, you do realize?

[silence. when her voice comes in, she's incredulous.]

Sir, I am not mad. I was using this device to let those I was staying with know where I am headed.

[ Now he sounds very more amused. And slightly derisive. ]

Is that so?

But it simply sounded like you're talking to yourself. How are we to know?

[is that an edge of irritation? i think it is.]

These journals, as I've heard them called, are for communicating with others in the city. Since most people can see them, talking to myself would be a bit redundant, don't you think?

[ He hums in false assent. ]

Are they? [ Sounds, like the communicator is being picked at, tapped on, and generally being tampered with. ] How interesting.

But I wouldn't know. I have just arrived here, after all. [ A pause. ]

Whatever 'here' is.

[she takes a few moments to answer as she composes herself. her voice is polite now, her accent more pronounced since she can breathe.]

Nuadoria. I've no idea where in the world, or even if it's in my world. I'm assuming not, as I've found no person familiar.

[ Unfortunately, the transmitter screens out the accent so Hide can't hear it anyway. ]

Hmm.

It usually isn't a huge black crater, I suppose. [ A pause. ] I doubt it's my world either.

[ And there might just be the slightest bit of panic slipping into his voice. ]

[lmfao oh, wel :')]

No, it's oftentimes a city, much like London.

And just what world are you from, sir?

Earth. I come from a country named Japan. [ He's gone back to deadpan mode. ]

And what happened to this city?

[something akin to interest enters her voice.]

How convenient. Earth is also my world. I hail from England.

What appeared to have been a meteorite fell from the sky and collided with the surface.

[ England? But she's speaking Japanese...

Static. More tampering with the transmitter before his voice fades back in. ]

A meteorite collide with the surface.

The damage seems rather localized. [ Now he's sounding rather incredulous. ]

[thank god for these communicators :')]

It appears to have been summoned by someone.

Summoned. [ Sounds of a harshly exhaled breath. Then, soft laughter, with the slightest hysterical edge. ]

This world seems rather... unique.

Is there a way out?

[deadpan.] With magic, I would assume.

As are many.

No, not that I have been able to find.

[ More deadpan than you. ]

Summoning with magic. Of course.

That is to be expected. It would be too easy if one can simply leave like this.

[ A short 'hmm'. ] You have seen other worlds, it seems.

[as emotionless as a british schoolgirl can get-which is pretty goddamn emotionless.]

Life is indeed full of surprises.

[a slow breath.] I have.
