I love that this was the tiniest thread of hope. Lestrade living on fumes. I also like that L grieved him, missed him, even knowing that he is still alive. What a terrible thing to carry and to watch John destroyed. Even when Sherlock comes back, they will have a hard time rebuilding.

I cried over this on the most. I'm such a sap.

Boys talking and not saying any of the important stuff. They all needed hugs and soft words but that's not how it works.

Intricate, poetic, tender, raw, rough in the right way, deep, mysterious, laden with symbolism, honest, real. I love it.

Thank you for another present.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned how much it means to me that you take the time to comment on my things. I'm always such a wreck after I post, until that first comment comes in (if it comes in, of course), and that you take the time to leave feedback means so very much. It's very helpful, and puts my mind a little at ease. So thank you.

Anyway, I'm glad that you found this a good end to the trilogy (even if it made you cry - sorry!). I had considered writing about Sherlock's return, but I don't think that would work here. What John and Lestrade go through needs to be highlighted - all their suffering, etc. So thank you for commenting, and thank you for liking this. It means a lot!

that one time I missed the mark and still feel bad about it.

Oh, don't feel bad about that one (if it's the one I'm thinking about, at least!). I appreciate all your comments, whenever they come in - and, having had a recent experience with some unfortunate anon comments, I appreciate you taking your concerns with my fics to PM.

meanwhile, Land Of Perpetual Sunrise was with me all last night topping all of the many things I read yesterday. It's huge, so amazing. You are still stretching yourself and it's really fun to watch through tear swollen eyes.

Oh, you're too kind to me. Thank you, thank you. That means a lot to hear, though I fear you are giving me too much credit. But thank you anyway. And don't ever apologize for being slow! And the same goes for me. I don't mean to be slow on commenting on fics - sometimes I just get kicked in the butt by real life.

So very sad. I love your portrayal of John and Lestrade and how much pain they are going through. Poor John, worried that he's starting to forget and Lestrade not able to either share his knowledge or do anything to help Sherlock. That's me sitting in a little puddle again.

I seem to make you sit in a puddle a lot, don't I? Whoops...

Anyway, so very happy that you liked these three stories. It means a lot that you would take the time to read and comment on them. Thank you!

Nice twist. I think in some ways, it's harder on Lestrade, knowing that Sherlock's alive. He's grieving, trying to come to terms with the loss, but there's still hope. At least John doesn't have to deal with that uncertainty.

Thanks! Glad you liked the little twist at the end. True, John doesn't have to deal with the uncertainty, and right now it's harder on Lestrade. But it will also be painful when Sherlock returns, and John finds out that Lestrade had kept that knowledge from him. Oh, angst!

thank you for reading and commenting!

Touching. Raw. A different style from your other stories. I get the feel of what it is for the three (...four?) of them, taking one hard step after another.
I'm in love with the idea of the starry message at the end. I'm fond of that patch of winter sky myself, and I can't but picture Lestrade as Aldebaran, the bright amber eye of Taurus, keeping watch on the Twins. (Uhm, this would probably make Mycroft be Orion, for better or worse-- the idea is worth thinking over).
Thank you!

Thanks very much! This was quite the departure from my usual style, so I'm glad that this worked for you! It means a lot to hear that!
