I knew if I kept pushing, it would happen.

Stop number two in my ramen-spree: Yokozuna Japanese Noodle Eatery. Despite being conveniently located beside Destiny at the Steeles and Midland intersection, this is the first time I've noticed the shop.

The menu is extensive compared with ramen shops downtown, ranging from snack-appetizers to noodles, fried rice, and sushi, but dishes were slightly more pricey than expected from a noodle shop. They offer "feature" ramen bowls, but the majority of their menu were lists of ingredients available for their build-your-own option.
  1. Choose your soup base. There's quite a few to choose from, ranging from your average miso soup for $5 to more complex and difficult-to-pronounce options for $8+.
  2. Choose your noodles. Again, you have a long list to choose from, ramen being the only "free" option that comes with your chosen soup base. Some other options include soba, udon, egg noodles, adding another $1.5+ to your meal.
  3. Choose your ingredients. SO MANY OPTIONS! They charge $1 per staple ramen ingredients (egg, seaweed, mushroom, lettuce, corn, etc), and $2-4 for meats and specialty items (pork, beef, chicken, etc).
First up, red miso soup ramen. Average noodles topped with mushrooms, seaweed, deep fried fish cakes, and very thin slices of pork- all soaking in a salty broth.

Tako yaki came next and turned out better than expected. With a large piece of tako in the center, the tako yaki was piping hot, soft, and moist when you break into them. This was a satisfying break from the noodles (Ermmm, I thought this was a noodle shop?).

My vegetable miso ramen came last, perpetuating the notion that restaurants don't carry vegetables until someone orders them on occasion. The bottom line is that the dish was exactly what I ordered. Hard boiled vegetables in salty miso soup- things balanced out and I enjoyed it more than the red miso ramen that came earlier. Ehn? The food tonight may not have been the best, but Winterlicious meals are right around the corner!
