He'd never been quite so frustrated before. And the thing that served to fuel his frustration was the fact that he wasn't quite sure what or who he was frustrated at. His emotions whirled inside, a tempest that tossed his mood from extreme to extreme. Before he knew it, he'd snapped at Bobo, and shouted at his mother. Disgusted at himself, he pushed off the seafloor, shooting toward the surface and hopefully a way to take out his frustrations.
He reached the beach soon enough, walking out onto the clean sand. He looked around the empty stretch of beach, the almost desolate silence serving only to darken his mood. Wandering aimlessly across the sand, he reached an outcropping of rock. Boulders worn smooth by the sea sitting comfortably in the soft sand.
He glanced at the boulders, an image of Sweeney with his arm protectively around Ali flashing across his mind. Jealousy. Was that all that was bothering him? Why should Ali need protection from him? His jaw clenched, as he internally lashed himself for such weakness, such un-princely behaviour. Finally, the storm spilled over and he simply couldn't contain it any longer.
His hands shot out, fingers cracking holds in the smooth face of a boulder. With a sound half between a roar and a groan he lifted the massive rock high above his head, pitching it far out into the water. Grabbing another he lifted into the sky, sending it hurtling down to earth to smash against the other boulders. His breath came in hoarse pants as he dropped back to earth, sitting on one unspoiled boulder, his knees drawn up against his chest. Striking green eyes looked over the sea, as he continued his inward struggle.
Stupid prince, think. THINK next time. You're her protector. Not what she needs protecting from.
