Odd structure, not like any crystal I've seen, but... Ah! It's on! so that's how it works...Sorry about that. I am Professor Indiana Jones. I teach Archeology at the Imperial University of Dagaria. I'll guess from the lack of dissertations on the subject that there's still not much known about these crystals ( Read more... )

Oh, Dr. Jones - Dr. Jones Jr., that is. What a pleasant surprise to see a fellow academic on the crystal network! I have an amateur interest in ancient relics myself, so I'm sure our discussions will be most educational. Although in your last book, I think you were too quick to dismiss some supernatural phenomena with overly prosaic explanations...

But I'm getting ahead of myself, aren't I? Introductions are in order. I'm Colonel Jade Curtiss of the Imperial Guard Third Division, but you might know me better as Dr. Jade Balfour... they keep trying to offer me a teaching position at the Imperial University, but I think I prefer facing the undead to facing a freshman class.

[He suppressed the slight twitch at the 'Jr']

I found no evidence to support the theory that Pre-Sawanese residents had the capability for regular travel to the moon, but I am willing to amend my position if the evidence does come up. But there is always room to discuss academic theories.

[Indy pulls his glasses to rub his temple before placing them back]

Dr. Balfour, I believe I've read some of your work. And as for the preference, you might've made a good choice since not only you'll have to deal with the freshmen, but the undead are an occasional occupational hazard in fieldwork.

Please, call me "Jade." My area of specialization may be Rift studies and related black magic, but I think we're close enough to being colleagues, hmm?

[Jade raises an eyebrow, amused.]

Ah, yes, I'd wondered how many of the more... adventurous exploits in your research were true. So undead are an occupational hazard for faculty of the Imperial University, then? I suppose the only difference between mindless zombies and undergraduates is that you can at least shoot the zombies.

Then call me Indiana then.

I'm not exactly an adventurer, I just simply have to put down what I encountered as a warning to my students to be on their guard. As for the undead, it's thankfully not a very common hazard, but one you have to watch for especially in the Barrows near the Rift.

[Indy chuckles at the last remark, he can't quite disagree there on that point, Jade]

Very well, Indiana~

I'm quite familiar with the exciting turns that field research can take. The Barrows, then? You must have at least a touch of adventurous spirit to venture so close to the Rift...

Well there is a lot that we do not know in that region prior to the Rift's existence, too many buildings, records and people have been lost in that disaster.
