using capitalism to save the world

you may have heard of this campaign. you may not. but i'm curious as to what people think.
my gut reaction was to be skeptical. because gap, apple, Armani, and american express are selling products to raise money? i know this isn't the first time this has happened, it's a common scheme. but i find it so fascinating that they are raising money to help people with HIV/AIDS in Africa, and in order to do that they're using products that are worth more than most people in the countries they're helping make in a year.

Don't get me wrong, if this works, if all the money that's supposed to go to medication and help for people in these countries actually gets there, I will be so happy. but what if it doesn't?
I like the idea advertised that gap is actually using a factory in Lesotho to make one of their shirts for this campaign. but it's still gap. they still have despicable labor practices around the world.

so... thoughts?
