Hurricane Charley

Well damn, what can I say that most people already dont know? So far 16 deaths have been reported and an estimated $11 billion worth of damage has occured. The good thing is, it wasnt as strong as perdicted and only did minor damage. This could have been so much worse.

Well the night of the hurricane, Billy and I went to tabatha's house because I wanted to comfort her and be with her during the storm. Before we left, Billy and I helped his parents fix up the house and prepare for the storm. We got to Tabys house and waited for it to begin. First we had "bands" come through which was just lots of rain and wind, then it would clear up and look fine. THen the storm showed up and the sky turned so dark. We lost power but still had our phone up so Tabathas mom was calling her family as it was going on to check up on them. We had some insane winds and hard rain all night. Tabatha and her mom were scared, while Billy, Sammy, Tabys Dad and I enjoyed it. We were opening the front door to see how strong the winds were, as huge pieces of debris were in the back yard being tossed around we had billy open the sliding glass door and grab it. Was actually a fun time, besides the fact tornados could drop down any second and destroy everything. The aftermath of the hurricane in Remington, wasnt as bad as we thought. Really only trees knocked down with some roofs damaged. Tabatha house was untouched. Out of all her neighbors, only her fence stood. She had no damage to her roof and no knocked down trees. The only bad thing was power was out. After the storm had passed, and only minor winds and rain remained, we decided to venture out and explore. Seem like everyone had that idea. We surveyed the damage and walked around, checking up on people. Was funny because we were walking down a road, and a piece of someones gutter I believe came flying at my head, almost hit me. Was kinda funny but at the same time scary. Well we stayed over night and then the next day we drove around and checked the damage. Thats when we saw the real damage it caused. Pool screens crashed like nothing, huge trees derooted into the streets and onto peoples homes, a portapotty in the remington golf course pond and a bunch of other stuff. BVL was by far the worse I saw, I havnt seen everywhere so cant compare. They power lines down everywhere. They were cracked in half or just got unearthed. Landed in peoples homes and onto the middle of the street. Huge trees blocking roads completly. There was even a huge semi that flipped over. Cops had to redirect traffic and all 4 lights had to be treated as a 4 way stop sign, this is causing lots of traffic and near accidents. At OIA, I saw pics of planes that were picked up and tossed around, I can only imagine how bad that was. Now the cleanup has started, and its making progress. Billy had some trees fall down in his yard, so we had to cut it up with a chainsaw, was kinda fun. Most of it is cleaned up, only the back yard remains. Out of all the places that I thought would get power first, BVL came out on top. Well at least billys area. I thought it would be the last place just because of all the down power lines, but I was mistaken. We got the power back online the next night after the hurricane after we came back from visiting katie, which is another story on its own. Phone and internet came up the next day. I was scared for my family since I couldnt get a hold of them, but I finally did. Everything is ok at my current home. Their fence is missing and the roof is damaged, but other the that, they are ok. Now the bad news is, that the new house my parents had being built, didnt make out so well. A tree fell onto the house, so the original plan on moving in this month is now delayed untirl repairs are made. Really sucks for them and I feel bad.

Im just glad this wasnt as big as we all thought and everyone is ok. Hopefully everyone without power gets it turned on soon.
