once upon a time there was a girl. and she grew up. and when she looked in the mirror, the little girl she once knew was hidden behind higher eyebrows and thicker lips and rounder cheeks and softer limbs but when she smiled, she could still see that little girl in her eyes. and when she saw that the little girl was still there she wanted to dance and sing and jump around because she remembered that the sky is always blue (even under the clouds) and the sun is so warm (even in the winter, when you curl up under windows like a cat) and swimming in water still feels like magic (especially when you open your eyes and see your fingers floating in crystal blue). and it was good when she was full of smiles because then she was full with the little girl she once was. she felt invincible and brave and fierce. and so when it got harder to smile she would go to the mirror and force smiles, trying to coax the little girl to come back out to dance and play. and if she tried hard enough, she could do it. and, she thought, she must never give up trying. because then that would be the end of the little girl. and the end of smiling eyes. and that must never happen. so she made a promise to herself and crossed her heart and tied string around her fingers. and she was happy.
(i just found dried cookie dough on my bedroom floor. that is 20% embarassing, 3% gross and 77% awesome.)
