Seven years, 2 months and twenty-eight days. That's how long I've been at my current position. Today is my last day as a computer operator. Starting Monday, I'm an IT Technician.
At my job, we have id badges with our pictures on them. I have to have a new picture made for mine now. Somebody finally saw my picture and decided that it had to go. In my picture, which was taken by someone who doesn't even work here anymore, I am holding both of my hands up into the frame and giving the "thumbs-up" sign. As far as I know, I'm the only employee with my hands in my id badge photo. Generally, it's a standard issue "driver's license"-type photo. I thought it'd be funny to give a "thumbs-up" in mine. It is funny. I got away with it for about 2 years. It's the end of an era. It's not like anyone ever actually sees these pictures, but since I'm joining the IT group, I guess my picture now goes up on our website, which I assume is the stimulus for my having to get a new picture taken. I think the real reason is that my picture is so badass that it makes all the other id pictures suck balls in comparison. So, for the good of the majority I must sacrifice my kick ass "thumbs-up" picture. I'll post a pic of my current badge as soon as I get it scanned in.
Had a pseudo-family dinner last night in honor or my sister's 21st birthday last week. I got a text message from work just after we ordered our food telling me that one of the systems went down. As soon as we got done eating, we bolted out of there. We did not mind having to leave early.
I have 8 hours and 47 minutes of work left. Actually, that's 8 hours and 47 minutes of job left. I'm not working. There's no work to do. I am Chuck's warm body sitting in a chair in front of a terminal. I am Chuck's warm body sitting in a chair in front of a terminal getting paid an IT Technician's wage to do so. I am Chuck's warm body getting overtime to sit in this chair.
I am Chuck's warm body about to climb into a good book for the next hour or so.
Who is this Chuck anyway?
