Forays into Flying Discs

I've had quite an incredible week. Had two good experiences hanging out late in the night with talented musicians from New York that have led me to track down a 'competition weight' frisbee - 180g to be exact.

Pat Deacon, Dan Deacon's little brother told me that was the optimum weight after a very late night game on the beach with some friends and his touring brother. After his show on Wednesday night last week at the Beck's Music Box Dan told me he would really love to see the beach - after his incredibly entertaining show I was only too happy to drive him down there. After our late night game I decided to purchase a disc for myself (this has been on my mind for months now) on the long weekend, as I would be going on a small road trip down to the quaint little town of Albany.

Now, just back from down south, I was informed by one Ian Hendrickson-Smith, a saxophonist, resident of Brooklyn as much as the Deacons were, that I should be aiming for 175g - when I had only purchased my new 180g flying disc just before his show that night as part of The Dap Kings. We chatted in depth about playing Frisbee in Central Park while Ms. Sharon handed us many lashings of bush-grown herbal delights - the band had no need for them as they were about to hit customs. We sipped fine spirits, smoked and talked all things funk and frisbee until the wee morning until we flew home down the road, high and happy courtesy of some rather dapper funk musicians from NY.

It must be mentioned that their show nestled in the cold hills of Albany with so many curious families and children was excellent. What a band. What a woman. Quite a dance in a carpark, then one later in the street.
