I didn't win any auctions at Marvel Trumps Hate this year. I do like watching the fills come in, though.
@holly_poly sign ups are open until Halloween! Also glad I got my @yuletide sign-up in on time. There's a Teen Wolf holiday exchange running on tumblr and a 911 holiday exchange running on Discord. I'm nervous to sign up to exchanges that aren't on A03. They give me pause because the chosen platform implies a lot of mod discretion, or maybe younger mods... Also it's hard to write when I don't get decent prompts, and I don't like when the rules don't have an example/require prompts. The only other holiday fest I'm doing is the HBO war exchange, unless I see some pinch hits I can pick up.
Horror Movies I've watched:
1922 (2017): A husband doesn't want to move to the city, so he murders his wife. I am not a fan :/ Plot was way too slow for me, and they threw in some gross scenes for shock value. There's one scene I won't forget involving a rat, but other than that I wasn't impressed. The film's lesson was that the husband shouldn't have killed his wife, but the fact that he even went there in the first place was weird. How was he so good at covering up murder after the fact, too? The ending wasn't bad enough for him imo.
Apostle (2018): A period piece about a cult that has sinister origins. With Michael Sheen! The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I really liked the costumes and grittiness of this. And they kept the tension up the entire film. There were some super gross scenes which worked with the setting, but I was confused by the abrupt ending.
Vampires vs. The Bronx (2020): Neighborhood kids have to save the Bronx from vampires. This was very funny at parts, and very modern - and the commentary on gentrification was not subtle. I was bored with the plot, but the kids did save the day. Maybe if I felt more connected to the Bronx, I would have enjoyed this more.
What Keeps You Alive (2018): A canon f/f couple go on a cabin retreat, and then things turn bloody. This film felt creepy and weird and I was enjoying it until the last third. The ending was off the rails!! They tried to bake in multiple climaxes, which felt exhausting by the end.
We Summon the Darkness (2020): Three seemingly best friends hit the road for a heavy metal concert. My favorite on the list!! I liked how the tension slowly ramped up until the film went all in. I didn't realize Alexandra Daddario was in it, but she's my favorite character. The gore went along with the plot, instead of the gore just being the plot. I loved the costumes and the unhinged nature of the characters. The twists surprised me. I'm a sucker for a satisfying ending, and this one was *chef's kiss*
And I also watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). What a kooky and delightful film! It has aged a tiny bit but I loved the pro-public transportation angle and the Jessica/Roger vibes. I want to be Jessica Rabbit this year for Halloween.
