End of the Year Meme

Dec 31, 2018 20:10

Stolen from a couple of people. Goodbye 2018!

1. Your main fandom of the year?
Marvel Cinematic Universe. And Teen Wolf (even a year after it ended!)

2. Your favorite film you watched this year?
Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Yay, an action packed blockbuster with my aesthetic! I thought they made a lot of great additions to book canon and O'Brien was quite impressive (and hot, dayum).

3. Your favorite book read this year?
Song of Achilles or City of Heavenly Fire because I'm a sucker for a tragic romance, apparently.

4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood Album - got to go to their concert this year and had a great time. I didn't spend that much time searching for new music this year as I normally do, though. Monster Among Men is my favorite.

5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Letterkenny! I discovered it this year, and I can't even believe how funny, witty, sarcastic, and socially conscious it is. And now it's all on Hulu!

6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Shadowhunters! Although Letterkenny is a close second, it's not as active as Shadowhunters. SH has a pretty big fanbase and super talented fanartists. I do wish there were more fic exchanges/challenges/diverse writing though.

7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Shadowhunters getting canceled :/ Also, some parts of Infinity War. That plot was all over the place.

8. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?

9. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?

10. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Tony pulling out the flip phone in Infinity War (but then not dialing??? Torture). Also, watching Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural and seeing the boys share. a. bed. Tropes in real life - count me in. Also, Shane Madej talking to demons gave me life.

11. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Smallville. I started a rewatch and even wrote a Clex fic, but then the news broke about Allison Mack and I felt bad about the whole fandom :/ I may continue my rewatch, because boy do I still adore Welling's Clark and Rosey's Lex.

12. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Well, not sure really. Maybe All American because of Cody Christian, although I don't really want another teen drama in my life. I definitely want to watch all of the movies in The Conjuring franchise, because I watched the first one this year and loved it.

13. Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
Shadowhunters 3B and Avengers: Endgame.

As for my writing:
This year I wrote and posted: 37 fics

Total wordcount: AO3 lists 94,077

Overall Thoughts:
I can't tell if this is good output or not? But this is more than I've ever written.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
More! Fandom has been re-energized in a lot of ways for me.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Jace/Simon from Shadowhunters.

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
A lot more character exploration, a lot less smut.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Only Human After All, with Allison/Stiles from Teen Wolf. I finally finished it!

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I wrote a few Gen fics that weren't focused on any relationship, just to explore characters more. Those fics are more difficult to write, but they hardly get any views, so I probably won't be writing as much gen fic.

My best story of this year:
I really like how Only Human After All turned out, and I want to add to it in the future.

My most popular story of this year:
It's a Skin on Skin Thing. Some intimate Steve/Tony <3

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
A Little Over the Top, a stony wedding fic from Avengers Academy. It might have been a little cutesy, but I love Team as Family and wedding tropes.

My least favorite story this year:
5 Times Reporter Woke Up with Company from the Generation Kill Bingo. I feel like I just didn't put in much effort and I wanted to complete the square, and it's not a very interesting fic.

Most fun story to write:
Lightwood Dressage Institute, a Jace/Simon horse ranch AU! Because I miss riding and I could write horse AUs for days.

Story with the sweetest moment:
Uh, I guess It's a Skin on Skin Thing.

Story with the single sexiest moment:
I Fucking Dare You, Sam/Bucky from the MCU. Gah, this fic is self-indulgent in a lot of ways but the humiliation kink is strong.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Meh. I have this one idea that is dirtybadwrong that I keep going back to, so maybe I'll be brave enough to write it this year.

Most overdue:
Only Human After All! I've been trying to write that fic since Teen Wolf season three.

Most eye roll-worthy title:
At First Sight, a Stony fic. I really phoned in that title.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
I Fucking Dare You, some Sam/Bucky porn that morphed into an interesting character study (at least for me).

Hardest story to write:
Fluffy Stony for an exchange - Merry and Bright. Stony is just not a fluffy ship anymore.

Biggest Disappointment:
Not writing more Jace/Simon! I had so many ideas but no good excuse to get them done. Also, the last part of my Stony series got some bad comments. But I still want to finish the series.

Biggest Surprise:
Someone to Follow, a Stiles/Allison fic with ghost Allison - it was fun to write and totally self-indulgent, but I got some great comments and more views than I expected.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Operation Pillage, with Brad/Nate from Generation Kill. Maybe not a lot of people are into Zombie AUs, but I still really like the way I wrote their relationship dynamic.

Favorite opening line:
“I’m sorry, but what do you want me to do again?” Stiles huffed, out of breath. He was spread-eagle on the training mat in the gym. (From Small Victories)

Favorite closing line:
As his lips pressed against her forehead for a gentle kiss, she figured that if anyone could understand her, it would be him. His strong arms wrapped around her, and he felt like home. (From Only Human After All)

In conclusion:
I feel good about improving my writing this year!

Fic-writing goals for 2019:
A big bang (maybe Stony?), more smut, more fics 10k or over.

teen wolf, buzzfeed: unsolved, shadowhunters, fandom: memes
