Good Judy: Don't Panic

Aug 23, 2008 10:42

I updated my swap list again and I also have six imps in the "pending" pile for which I couldn't find a review, some I'm not sure how they got in the swap side of my perfume box. If anyone wants me to bump up my wear-and-review of La Belle au Bois Dormant, Mata Hari, Phantom, Anubis, Tushnamatay, or Bordello, let me know! (I'm pretty sure Bordello was in the pile because I have two.)

Dang, I think I have to catalogue the imps again. I've got some unaccounted for and I don't have a record of frimping them.

On to the review!

This was my first perfume order from Good Judy. I'm extremely happy with my order. First off, the ordering experience itself was quick and painless, and I received a very prompt shipping notice the next day. Second, I received my goods so swiftly! Three nights after I ordered, I was opening my goodies.

Siggster was ample with the whiffs. I now have six lovely free whiffs to try out in addition to the three bottles I ordered. I cannot wait!! Key Lime Pie and Lucky Ducky smelled especially tempting. There was also a whiff of "First Creation," which I couldn't find listed on Good Judy, so I think I've been honored with a whiff of the first, unlisted blend.

I started with "Don't Panic" because work has been really stressful this year, and "Don't Panic" is how I need to be. "Don't Panic" actually started out as the basis for my perfume order, and I added some limited blends that looked great. Normally I'm a calm, mellow person, adapting well to change and come what may, I can handle it. This year has been tough, especially at work. I've been trying various methods for dealing with anxiety to reconnect with my trademark calm.

Good Judy's "Don't Panic" description: We live in a world where we’re always on the go, leaving little room for self-TLC. Panic can be an overwhelming sensation that leaves you drained for hours. Don’t Panic contains oils that are well-known to calm, soothe, and relax the mind and spirit. Tassi lavender, Neroli, frankincense, ylang ylang

In the bottle: I get a whiff of astringent, almost harsh floral. It's a sinus-shocking, powerful scent. Was worried it would stop my sinuses in their tracks, I had trouble with BPAL's The Hanging Gardens on Thursday.

Wet on skin: I'm not sure how to recognize things like frankincense and ylang ylang, but I can say for sure it's a powerful floral scent which usually makes me cringe - but this is beautiful. It's like being gently embraced in a cloud of lavender and other sweet, sharpish flowery scents. The astringent quality stays and keeps all the floral notes from becoming cloying.

Dry on skin: A layered kind of lavender. I wish I could identify the other notes. This is a fantastic blend, though. Like BPAL's Has no Hanna, this is a floral that I can not only tolerate, but actively enjoy!

After a few hours: Fades into subtle, pleasantly sweet notes against my skin. I can't judge the throw myself, but it doesn't seem to be extremely powerful after the initial thirty minutes or so. Rather than stopping my sinuses, as I feared, it seems to have kept them clear.

Final impression: Oh man, I am going to use the HELL out of this bottle. Just keeping the bottle open near my workstation for a few minutes was an indescribably pleasant experience. Maybe it's because it's Friday, maybe it's the special quality of "Don't Panic," but my mood totally lifted after applying this. I reapplied after an initial, tentative wrist-dab didn't stay with me. I felt calm, happy even. I'm contemplating an attempt to turn part of the bottle into a spray that I can use on clothes and hair.

The sad bit is, I will have to limit my use of this to be away from home - my girlfriend actively despises the scent of lavender and that note is a key component of "Don't Panic."
