Chapter 1; It was only the begining

As he stood in the shower, washing the vomit off of himself, all he could think was, "Another morning in this god damn house". The shower in the basement reminds him of jail. It was the closest thing to a sanctuary as he was going to get this morning, yet it was a little bit of hell at the same time.

When he gets out of the shower the night before comes crashing down around him like the feeling of losing a loved one.Pulling on the same pair of camo shorts he wears everyday, he takes a deep breath and knows his day has begun.

Walking past the kitchen he sees Gary fixing something to eat. "Why hasn't he kicked me out yet? I need to get the fuck out of here.", he tells himself. When he gets to the hall he can hear Viv screaming at one of the many unwanted animals. So many dogs in one house IS illegal, but no one cared, it made Viv happy. She was the nicest person you would ever meet. Nice, but completely bat shit crazy.

He tries to make it into his room before Gary finishes fixing his meal. The only thing he thinks about anymore is getting out of this house and what he's going to be drinking that night. Pushing the door open to his room he asks himself aloud, "do I work today?". Upon turning on the stereo he contemplates which pipe he will be using this morning. After a lengthy debate with himself he decides on one. He fills the blackened glass hole with what little pot he has. He took a few hits before getting up and changing the music that had come on. After pulling a few drawers open he found his Bob Marley cassette tape. Jason put the cassette into the old black stereo and then sat back down to finish what he had started. When he finished smoking his pot he reminisced about how he came to know Jeremy and wonders when he, if not the both of them, will get their shit together.

There was a knock on his bedroom door."Dude you want to smoke a bowl?" The smoke in the air escaped into the hall. They both looked at each other and laughed about it. Jeremy looked like he had been up for awhile, which was extremely out of his character. Jeremy had on a pair of khakis, a red shirt and one of Jason's hats. He would always dress to match his red car. Jason could never figure out the love affair Jeremy was involved in with that machine, "Where you off to?" he asked with a sense of relief. Jeremy started to tell him a grand story about going to a meeting for the business he was trying to start with Zack. He knew it was probably a bunch of bullshit. He had his own plans for the day, so it didn't matter what Jeremy had told him. Point blank, he didn't care.
"Well good luck with all of that. Do you want me to pack it up or what dude?"
Old friends, thats what they were. Things change over time.

A guy named Josh had introduced them in middle school. They became close after realizing that one another smoked pot. At the end of eighth grade Jason moved to Delaware. When he came back two years later it was as if everyone had lost there minds.

They all had in a sense, you see the drug boom in the area was in full swing. Before moving, Jason was smoking pot and drinking a beer here or there in order to feel like an adult, but there wasn't any thought of doing harder drugs. When Jeremy caught wind of Jason being back in town he wanted to get together. It wasn't long before the both of them were addicted to the party life style. There wasn't much to do in town,so, "Why not?", they thought.

They weren't alone when it came to thinking this way. It seemed like the entirety of there class had this mentality. By the time they had dropped out of school, they had both taken a separate drug hazed path. They saw each other randomly over the years until Jason's grandmother had died.

When she passed Jason's home life took a nose dive until he finally landed on the street. He had been living on the street when Jeremy had run into him again. Since then Jason had been living with Jeremy. At first it was great, However they began to resent each other. Jeremy exaggerated too much and Jason was too exaggerated. Sometimes they still shared a good a laugh, but these days it was few and far between. He didn't want to hate Jeremy because he was the only one who could help him with a place to stay rite now. Luckily for the both of them, time changes all.

As they sat there talking Jason tried not to let his discomfort show. It wasn't just Jeremy that bothered him it was also the body pains.
"Where is this meeting today?", getting ready for the raft of shit coming his way he anchored into the story with another hit from the pipe.
"D.C.! Man, I really think this is going to be the break I'v been waiting for! All I have to do is convince them to believe in our software and to help us get the business off the ground! Next stage is finding an office and a staff!"
All he could do to get him out of his room was to agree."Sounds awesome man. I hope it goes well." For the past month it had gone on like this. At first it was hard not to have faith in him, but that quickly faded.
After Jeremy leaves in his hand me down race car, Scruff calls up one man he knows will be down for hanging out. Since Jeremy had left he figured it would be safe to make his way through the wasteland that was Jeremy's parents house. Once he arrives at the top of the basement stairs the noise begins. The sound of seventy five dogs stampeding always gave him chills, not to mention the questions one has about why people live this way. This is where you hold your breath and try to get up the second flight of stairs without getting bitten or stepping in shit. When he got up to Jeremy's room he sat down and tried to call Zack.

The muffled ring of Zack's phone was barely audible under a crumpled t-shirt. It managed to get its cry of help loud enough to make Zack perk up and pay attention. Where is that coming from, Zack asked himself as he tossed the remains of the previous night to the side. Upon locating his phone he answered it immediately. "Guess what Jeremys doing today" came through the phone with a familiar voice.
After getting the run down on Jeremy's day he quickly told Jason he didn't really care. "Anyway, whats up man?" he inquired. It was the same old routine that had been going on for awhile, one or the other would call and find out what the plan of action was for the day. " not a damn thing" Jason started in, "crazy night last night, you up for round two?". Like usual Zack was up for getting together and seeing what happened.

An old pair of chucks get strapped on to feet that feel older then the body they're attached to, then a cigarette is lit. After finding his hat, it was time to walk to the end of the driveway. After a brief call Liz was trying to hang out as well. Now all he had to do was walk to the end of the drive. During the day it wasn't an issue to drive down the driveway. Jason enjoyed the walk to the end of the driveway. It always soothed him a little, the relief of leaving the house was enough to make the day better regardless of what else was going on in his life. It wasn't long after he got to he end of the drive that the silver mazda come around the corner. He knew that getting to a bottle was only a matter of time now.

The promised land, the land of milk and honey, the barn. Every time it came into sight stories of the night before would be told, always ending in laughter and a sense of belonging to something better then this small town. After pulling in it became apparent that the night before had been as intense as they had remembered. The sight of smoldering ambers at two in the afternoon always had a way of haunting the day. Broken chairs and giant shards of glass still lay around where the fire had been started. It looked like most of the beer cans had been picked up, a clear sign Zack was up and moving. Unlike the rest of this clan, Zack remained the one who could work as hard as he partied, Liz tried but was always convinced of better things to do with her time. Jason existed in his own little world of maintaining a bull-shit job and partying as much as possible. Needless to say he went through alot of bullshit jobs.At the moment Jason was working at a dollar store in the mall stocking shelves. Zack was doing tree work with his dad, Liz was trying to goto school and Phill was the artist. When the four of them got together it was as if timed paused for awhile to let them have there fun.
