I don't ordinarily wax patriotic, but today I'll make an exception.
We kvetch and whing about the way things are going in this country. And we should be concerned about the way things are going. But when I look at many other places on this abused old globe, I realize how truly lucky and spoiled we are. Most of us rarely go truly hungry, for the most part we can go and come as we please and comparatively cheaply at that. We can, for the most part say what we want, where we want without fear of reprisal.
Most of us have a roof over our head and a warm place to sleep.
As we know there are many things that we should address, poverty, unemployment, access to medical care, hunger just to name a few. On the other hand there are places like the local food bank, the thrift store that will let some people take what they need without payment. But there is still more to do! And we should get up off our hind-quarters and do something.
I frequently vituperate at the so called Christians because they fall short of their professed ideal and revile me and those with similar sexual preferences. If you think being gay, lesbian or Transgendered is hard (and it is) try being a bisexual older male in a youth oriented culture. It' ain't fun my friends.
But still I wouldn't wish to be in any other country most of the time.
Happy 4th of July.
